I've been saying for a month that we weren't utilizing Bowden properly. The best aspect of his game is coming off picks at the elbow and shooting mid range jumpers.

He is a consistent 50% guy taking those shots and they open up other aspects of his game like driving to the lane, diving to the basket when the defender overlpays and denies on the screen and it opens up passes to cutting bigs. Also gives confidence to the rest of his outside game.

These plays made him the best 6th man in the SEC last year and worked well this year before Turner left. Not sure why we went away from it but I hope we continue to use him like this the rest of the season.

Maybe Vescovi learning our system will help.

Bowden is doing one hell of a job for this team and the majority of this fans base won’t ever appreciate it or admit that he’s the straw that stirs the drink on this team

As the senior should.

What about the lay ups......? The turnovers ? I have to respectfully disagree.

He has made a fairly high percentage of his shots going to the basket...his misses on layups just get amplified.

It's not always easy to control your shot when you have a lot of momentum going to the rim and have big guys contesting.

Our guys also get hit a lot of the time and it isn't called.

Yeah, I posted his stats the other day since the Kansas game. It seems like he is realizing that he can affect the game from areas other than the 3-pt line, and his numbers since then have reflected that. He is still going to take that shot because it will be available to him, but the percentage of his total attempts has now skewed to around 60/40 in favor of 2s where before Kansas, it was right at 50/50.

And as you said, his defense allows him to be effective on both ends of the floor, which is partly why he still plays so much, in addition to his new role, offensively.

He’s not getting good enough picks. Some of our players look lost at times
Agree on this...not running enough plays for him, but I'm also not sure if they're not looking for him or Bowden being too passive looking for the ball.

The curl action flat out stopped for about a month. Last night was the first time I've seen it in weeks.

If Bowden can turn it back on we can beat anyone left on our schedule. I wish he was more aggressive though, seems like he’s hesitant to shoot the ball.

I appreciate the career of Bowden and all that he's done for the program.

However, there's no denying he's in the middle of a monumental slump. As has been stated ad nauseam, he's just not an alpha dog and has a much better game when he's scoring option 3 or 4, instead of option 1.

Love the kid, and glad he's a Vol!

If Bowden attacks early and often, he tends to have a good game. His defense this year has been solid and he does not get rattled, which is huge for the younger players to witness.....

His offensive game attacking the basket is his weaknesses on offense. And it has adjusted how he gets defended. Opponents have a good scout on him and he has not been very effective counteracting it. The biggest reason is his lack of ability to make plays off the bounce. He struggles to finish at the rim and does not pass well off his attacks. Don't see many players with his size, ballhandling and leaping ability that struggle like he does attacking the basket. Maybe his quickness is not elite which could be part of it. But mostly I think it's just 'feel' and 'confidence' that cause him to struggle attacking the basket. It's a shame because the other aspects of his offensive game are very strong. But with defenders not respecting his ability to drive it is easier for them to take away his strengths. It's the same idea but in reverse when you got a player that is great attacking the basket but can't shoot and so defenders stay 2 ft off of them when they have the ball on perimeter. I have seen him be more intentional about finding and taking shots to attack. And he has finished a little better in the last couple weeks so that has helped.

When Vescovi went out and Bowden played point the offense looked bad.

This is just plain wrong. SV went out of the game with his 3rd foul just a few minutes into the second half with a score of 51-34 when he returned we led by 22.

Also it should be noted that Bowden has been essentially running the point a lot even with SV in the game. It’s been a great move by Barnes in that Bowden gets us into our offense a lot of quicker than SV

I don’t see what your seeing.

His weakness this season appears to be an inability to hit open jump shots at the same rate he’s done his prior three seasons. Yes, he did miss 3 close shots last night but that’s not been his norm. He’s been jump shooting so poorly that a few games back it’s like he decided to drive more and it appears to be helping somewhat.

I think you mean worse bad. Our base offense is set to bad. Just is what it is this year.

Hope we start gellin' to close out the year and start putting it all together.

He has missed point blank layups all season long. To me that is more disturbing than a three point shooting slump. Having said this, his drives to the basket are still one of our best offensive options simply because we don't have a lot of quality options.

Last night was a very good night by offensive metric standards, couldn’t have really asked for much better...hopefully it’s a sign of things to come.

I feel that he not looking for his shot enough. When he dribbles hea angles lateral to the basket not facing or heading toward the basket. Also all the a defender has to do is be in the area and he won't shoot. He has to be more aggressive than that.
