:disappointed: What do yall think our chances are of becoming bowl eligible by the last game of the season. From my calculations, we need to win 3 of our final 5 games. The only game I see that is a doubtful win is the Notre Dame game. So that means we'll have to win 3 out of those 4 other games. Looks like when we beat Vandy the next to last weekend, we should be eligible. If we can pull out a win against Kentucky, we should finish with 7 wins. How do you all feel about us going to a good bowl? Shreveport sounds nice given the situation / injuries, etc.

From what it looks like we will end up in the Music City Bowl which is fine with me because I live in the area and can probably get free tickets.

Downside is it might be freezing cold. I went to the Titans-Cowboys Christmas Day game a few years ago and had to leave before 1/2 time because it was so cold.

:birgits_giggle: RockyTopEmpire, I agree with you. Nothing wrong with Memphis and there's certainly nothing wrong with being 7-4 (or better) and going to Nashville? Why does my thread sound so terrible to the juvie?

haha man it's cool, someone just said something about "this is like reading a memphis board" I found that humorous because, being a memphis native, i can see where they would think that

Okay guys, cut the crap! I know 7-4 isn't the greatest. Some teams would be happy with that record when they been at best 5-6 over the last decade or so. I know we're used to 8-3 or 9-2 seasons. Can't blame it all on Phil. The "D" is doing good, it's just the offense needs to step it up some. Would be nice to average 21 plus per game. I think the Vols will end up in one of the following: (1) Music City, (2) Peach or (3) Liberty. With wins over the Gamecocks, Memphis, Vandy and the Cats and a loss to the Irish, that's 7-4. However, if the Vols can hold the Irish to less than 17 and put 21 on the board we have a shot at an 8 win season and maybe one step up the ladder. :cross:

GO FOR THE GUSTO! :good:

:clapping: I totally agree with your post. Great points. Exactly what I said. That Volunteers guy got offended by it. Given our injury situation, I believe 7-4 is an accomplishment we can be happy with....not embarrassed by it.

I'm not happy with 9-2 so don't even ask me about 7-4 or 6-5. After my last trip to the Peach Bowl, in Atlanta , Clemson ended me. Enjoy Mempho and the mediocrity now known as Big Orange Football!

I think the point is that the Vols are still a top 25 team with a win over a top 10 team and a great defense. No worries, they will be in a bowl. The Notre Dame game helps decide which bowl the Vols will go to.

BTW - the Independence Bowl ($1.2M) pays much more than the Music City Bowl ($780K). Independence matches against a BigXII team and the Music City against a Big 10 team. Tennessee has faired well against the Big 10 in bowls with wins over Ohio State, Michigan and Northwestern. However, the Big XII has been quite unkind, with 2 losses to Nebraska and another to Kansas State.

Last season Minnesota (7-5) beat Alabama (6-6) in the Music City Bowl.... and Iowa State (7-5) beat Miami-Ohio (8-5) in the Independence Bowl.

Tennessee's stock rises with a win over Notre Dame and an 8-3 finish. Miami, Florida State and Tennessee all finished the regular season in the top 15 last season with 3 losses.

With the possibility that Florida will lose 4 games this season (games as Georgia and Fla State) as well as Auburn (games against Georgia and Alabama)... the Vols could move up to the Peach or Cotton Bowls. I don't think Tennessee can do any better than 4th in the bowl pecking order behind Alabama, Georgia, and LSU. If 2 SEC teams make the BCS, then the Vols might move up to the Outback Bowl.
