Which is more important: Tennessee making it to a bowl this year, or Dooley being let go by the University. This seems to be the two main themes going on right now. Which one do you think is more important and why?

You can have both, but who knows where the coaching staff and player's heads will be mentally on Sat. I'd like to see the Seniors make it to a bowl for the sheer fact of what they've had to put up with from the incompetence of the UTAD. The fans don't deserve this and the players sure as hell don't deserve it. Leadership at UT has been lacking since Doug Dickey and Joe Johnson left that place. It's been one cluster***** after another up there. I feel better with Hart up there, but Cheek can go to hell.

Let him coach the last 2 games. It does not matter that much. Many times , recruits commit to the university, not the coach. A "good coach" can win with next years roster and maybe add a recruit or two, who was previously not interested

Doesn't matter. Vandy, UK or both will beat us. This team will lay down on Dooley. 5-7 or 4-8 is the reality.

While a bowl would be great for recruiting and the revenue it would generate, it would most likely be just a short term benefit.

However, the right new HC could make a greater short, medium, and long term impact on recruiting, revenue generation, fan support, and player dorm improvement or replacement... which would help with recruiting (the current dorm is a dump compared with other programs around the country).

Therefore, I would prefer the right HC hire over the quality of bowl we would most likely be invited to.... because of the longer term benefits.

that's what we thought last year :banghead2:

No, Ky actually had a defense last year and we had a QB playing with a broken thumb. This year Ky doesn't do anything well. Ky flat out blows. UT will have to completely shut themselves down to lose that one.

I think a bowl game is needed. I mean give them 14 extra practices to give young players reps will do wonders for a new coach. I say that because whatever coach comes in I believe they keep the 3-4 installed also I think a BIG TIME hire/ GOOD coach will be able to bring in some better recruits.

i think when they started a WR at QB we were all thinking an easy win...

A bowl. I wanna see Rod rack up for more tackles for his draft stock :loco:

But really, i wanna see the seniors go out strong. They haven't had much to be excited about the last 4 years. S/O to Wilks, Rogers, Thomas, Lathers, and anybody else i am missing. GBO! V, B!

I think we can have both. The new head coach will be allowed to recruit even if Dooley is coaching the bowl. I just think these guys can use the extra practice to just play football.

Care to look at the stats? Let's do that shall we?

Ky's D was ranked 58th. While not earth shattering, UT's offense was ranked 104 out of 120 teams. Couple that with a QB who came back too early from a broken thumb and who was missing one of his best WR's and a RB who was banged up then it's not surprising that Ky's D shut down UT's offense. UT's offense was a shell of itself by the end of the season.

Everyone talks about the WR turned QB that beat UT. UT's defense only gave up 10 points and the TD drive should've been nullified due to a fumble that the incompetent refs missed.

While I agree with you that we can have both (with win out), I was just answering the original thread as to what I preferred. I should have mentioned that I preferred both, then give the reasons I would rather have the new HC over the lower-quality bowl... while recognizing that a bowl is a bowl.

Let's see, UT's offense with a rating of 104 and a scoring offense of 106 (that's out of 120 teams for those keeping score at home) vs. a defense rated 58 and a scoring defense of 53. Couple that with a QB with a broken thumb and it's impossible that Ky D could shut down an offense rated 104.

Also, ask any UT fan what they would give to have a defense just rated 58th this year. I'll wait.
