I understand the extra practices and the revenue, but someone please tell me how going to a bowl after the 2009 Kiffin year and the 2010 Dooley year helped us in the following years. Who really cares if we get to play Illinois in the Cereal Bowl?

Go tell that to the kids that spend 20-30 hrs a week at practice and in the weight room.

Or to recruits when you have to explain "oh hey, you know how there are all those dozens of bowls; yeah we didn't even make one"

Guys,
When you look back at past seasons and see the Vols won a bowl game, do you think it's a bad thing? A failure of a season? Do you wonder if the team went 9-3 or 6-6? Do you ponder if it was a 10 game season? 12? No you don't. You look at it as a good season. Granted in relative terms as to how that years expectation were, perhaps a XXX bowl was a disappointment but that is even forgotten over time. My point, going to and winning bowls are good things. And coming into this year it was our Super Bowl: win enough to go and finish with a winning season. Last I checked this us still possible and team 117 just might pull it off.

A .500 season should not be rewarded with a bowl game. I can remember when it didn't.

Then we all need to go back to playing an odd number of total games, because that's pretty much just a result of that.

Is that what I said? My point is that there is too much emphasis on making a bowl, because it hasn't helped us in the past.

Interesting...this team is wore down and adding a bowl game with more practice sessions may not be in their hearts. Vandy game will let us know. If they don't have fire in em for that game, they are just saying no mas.

I disagree completely.
Okay. Please tell me how the Kiffin 2009 blowout loss to Virginia Tech helped our 2010 Year Zero Dooley team. Then tell me how our 2010 close loss to North Carolina helped Dooley's second year 2011 team. Are you telling me that we would have had a worse record in 2010 and 2011 if we hadn't gone to those 2 bowl games? My point is that it makes no difference for the next year.

A bowl this year seems to be a huge goal for Butch. If he is selling his system, it is best for all that he meets his goals.

I've seen enough. Don't need another game to show us that Vol football 2013 was a disaster. Let's leave it at 12 games this year and be done with it.

I feel sure that his contract has a significant bonus payout if he reaches a bowl game.
