I am not a fortune teller, we can still make the playoff or we could finish 7-5,8-4,9-3.

My question for other posters: with the expanded playoffs now, what impact does this have on the other bowl games? Last year we saw so many players opt out of bowl games, even bowl games that traditionally were major, elite bowls. Frankly, for me, most of these bowls will be as exciting as watching the NIT basketball tournament. Will fans give the same support as in the past?

If we don’t make the playoffs, say we go to Outback Bowl, will people give a crap to even go? I told my wife the only bowl I would be remotely interested in attending outside of the playoffs, would be the Las Vegas Bowl for obvious reasons.

I believe most of the bowls outside of the playoffs would be better served to sponsor a spring game between two decent teams, I believe there would be more interest , hopefully portal players would be settled with new teams with rosters not in flux,

I’ll still go if I’m off work and it’s a location we want to visit. Last two years in Florida have been fun.

I love UT football but won’t spend $$$ on another bowl game unless it’s part of the playoffs.
I won’t spend money on a regular season game. For those of us that live out of town, it’s easier a 1000 dollar weekend.

The bowl games like Citrus and Outback and others will be much cheaper now. And it's a chance to take a trip with family, friends and other UT fans. So yes some will still go, and UT fans usually travel well regardless. I'd still go.
Orange Juice, will you be tailgating for Florida? Me and my buds want to stop by and say hi! First ever Vols game!

No, UT priced me out on season tickets now, and with gas, food and hotels as high as they are I can't justify it. I might be down for Kentucky or Mississippi State. Unbelievable the costs of a weekend now.

Great question OP. In my opinion, once everyone sees how well the 12 team playoff works, it will get expanded to 16 quickly.
The CFP will pull 4 more top level bowls into the quarter or semi final round.
The rest of the bowls will wither on the vine and go away due to lack of interest, players opting out, etc.

As you, or someone, suggested the sponsors would be better off shifting focus to be kick-off type games.
Seems like a lot more teams are wanting that neutral site, power conference, early season match up these days.
Feel bad for the little guys though - the directional schools, independents, and such - they will likely miss out on these games unless sponsors do some type of regional thing.

Actually, there's an idea for a big time sponsor - instead of a single game, do an entire weekend.
For instance, use Lucas Oil in Indy (it would be before the NFL season), invite four schools from around the area that typically don't play each other - say Notre Dame, tOSU, Indiana, and Lousville. Pair the two lower ranked teams (UL and IU) on Friday evening and the higher ranked matchup on Saturday.
You could sell ticket packages for both games and rake in the cash.
