It's all a ploy. Get your favorite player on the cover where you live. they hype your team give you a top 5 ranking to make you feel good. Now i use that mag to start fires in the fireplace and i am out 7 bucks per magazine and your team sucks.
UT at 3 and preseason SEC Champ. Ainge top 10 player Rose Bowl bound. etc... Ill use my money more wisely next summer...

I bought my copy of Athalon with Lienert and Riggs on the cover while on Vacation in Naples, FL in August. I think they really expected UT to be better. I know I did.

They should have and could have been. But are not.

How could anybody have seen this season coming? Even our biggest detractors were saying we were still a 9 win team, 8 at worst.

It is a good travel mag in the car i must admit. always fun going out of state with a ut cover on the mag and leave it on the dashboard so everyone can see the vols.

Hopefully, CPF won't do any preseason predictions again with winning the SEC championship and possibly the National Championship and to see it backfire on him.

No I don't. I just said it like every time we are ranked in the top 5, we...........you know what.

First of all, the covers are regionally made. But covers are marketing, they don't predict. The polls are the same no matter what region you're in; so they don't change to sell mags.

Further, CPF's "rosey" evaluation of our team did not make us play bad. Our playing bad made us bad, the same as every other bad team.

They made similiar comments in '96 and '97 without falling over dead.

As a coach, I never liked to give my team a "rosey" evaluation before the season. That's like "counting your chickens before they hatch" type of thing. I have seen it time and time again that when you give yourself a "rosey" evaluation and predictions that they tend to backfire on you. I always liked to underestimate the season and give the players some goals to shoot for.

I like the mags. They have recruiting info, schedules, good stories, tv schedules, rosters..........I'm buyin' em...They get me through the summer.
