In September of 88, Hershiser was as unhittable as any pitcher I've ever seen. He was unbelievable. Not only did he break the scoreless-inning record, but he finished up the year with something like 8 or 9 complete games and a 10-inning game, all in a row. He ended the year with the 59 consecutive scoreless innings, one more than Drysdale's record -- and then came out and gave up a run in the first inning of the first game of the 89 season, ending the streak.
Webb's got a shot at it, but I'm not going to get too excited until he pitches another shutout next time out.
