It is no longer the case, in other words, that every Islamist is seen as a potential accessory to terrorists. "The war on terror is over," one senior State Department official who works on Mideast issues told me. "Now that we have killed most of al Qaida, now that people have come to see legitimate means of expression, people who once might have gone into al Qaida see an opportunity for a legitimate Islamism."

Now I wonder who the terrorists are?

Actually this makes sense, as the religious terror wave should be on the down slope, from a historical standpoint. There will be another wave to replace it, though

Let's take bets on the next wave.

So far we have had Anarcho-terrorism, Anti-Colonial terrorism, New left terrorism and finally religious terrorism.

The war on terror. There will always be those that do things like that. It's what they do. It's what they live for. It's always been that way. You can't change human nature.

Yep, I would bet the next things we see are a sharp rise in governmental terror and cyber terror. You can just do more damage with a laptop than a bomb these days

An infinitely more accurate statement than "Mission Accomplished," don't you think ? Particularly when one is from some grunt and the other a huge banner behind POTUS on a battleship !

1. "Some grunt"? I failed to find any statements by an infantryman in that article. I thought it came from the State Department, correct? Feel free to use any diminutive term in your lexicon to describe the personnel at the State Department; however, let's reserve the term "grunt" for infantrymen.

2. Neither GWB, nor his administration, had anything to do with the "Mission Accomplished" banner. That was put together by the Navy, specifically by that carrier group. In his speech, Bush simply said that major combat operations were over. This turned out to be incorrect; however, Bush never made any statement, that I am aware of, to the effect that the Mission in Iraq had been accomplished.

While we're at it, can we get rid of TSA, DHS and stop CISPA in its tracks? Would also like to see them ground all the drones they're putting up over the US and bring the troops home.

Of course, none of this will happen and our civil liberties will continue to erode.

Does this mean everyone critiquing Ron Paul on his foreign policy can get on board now since the threat is over?

In no way is that statement remotely accurate.
