I know Brent went to UGA and finished his last year at Carson Newman. Todd ended up at Carson Newman eventually as well and had a nice career with the Patriots. I think Brent got drafted by Buffalo. Not sure why UT wasn’t a good fit, but young guys/girls gotta find their way and what’s best for them. I’m told they’re both pretty good dudes from people that know them.

I met Todd in a bar not knowing who he was. He told me that everybody on the Rams defensive unit was watching the clock in the fourth qtr because they did not want to deal with Eddie George. Talked to him a majority of the night. Super nice guy.

Cool article about Todd:

From a UGA rivals article (they missed the brief stint at UT):

Todd Collins (’88, New Market, Tenn.), who was regarded by recruiting guru Max Emfinger as the No. 5 overall recruit in the 1988 class, injured his arch the first day of fall camp, was redshirted, later contracted mononucleosis and infected sinuses—and less than a year after arriving to UGA, transferred with his older brother, Brent, a junior linebacker, to Carson-Newman.

I hung out with Todd at a camp years ago and asked him about it, but I admittedly don't remember the details of what he shared with me. I remember he seemed like a good guy, though. As an alum, I always longed to return that kind of success to our alma mater. But we never came close haha.

Some of that seems poorly written. I didn't know Todd was ever at UGA. I was told he was probably the best LB on UT's roster when he was here. He was going to take someone's spot because he was that good! He had gotten hurt. It was my understanding that he transferred to Penn State. I find that he went to Carson Newman surprising. Maybe it's accurate but that is Wikipedia.

Edit: Well he does have a CN football card. CN had to be a beast at that time.

There was a third brother (the youngest, Mark I think) who signed with Tennessee out of high school , but never played.

Ken Sparks used to routinely poach players from UT.
