Brian Dawkins to retire

This is a good time for him to do it. He could still be a great leader, but his playing days are behind him.

U lose a step at a skills position in the NFL, time to let it go. Great player, looks like he chose the right time to exit.

He'll sorely be missed in Denver. Leadership like his hasn't been seen there since Al Wilson.

Considering whether Dawkins was a HoFer made me wonder if Atwater could ever make it. He won't but he put up stellar numbers in a slightly different era.

...that's my dude.

Glad he retired before hurting himself though.

The safety position is probably the hardest position to get into the hall for. There are only 7 true full time safeties in the Hall.

The last one inducted, Paul Krause, wasnt inducted til nearly 20 years after he retired. Its just a hard position to get into the hall and I dont think Dawkins will get in anytime soon. I think McNabb will get in before Dawkins.

I think opinions of safeties have changed in the more pass-happy NFL. You have safeties winning DPOY on the reg, now.

Agreed. The league is much more pass-happy now, and top flight defensive backs are now highly important players. I think Dawkins will get HOF fairly quickly.
