With Gus Malzahn cleaning house at Auburn, I'm wondering if UT should go after Brian Vangorder for our new DC. Vangorder was great at Georgia and did pretty well with the Atlanta Falcons.

He hasn't been that great at Auburn, but he was only there one year, and I think the problems ran much deeper. We saw how Chavis didn't fare as well at UT when we pumped out miserable offenses every year --- difficult to succeed on defense when you get no help from the offense.

DC is going to be a key hire for Butch Jones. It could make or break him, given that he's more of an offensive-minded guy and we need a strong DC to compete in the SEC. I think Vangorder is one of the best DCs out there, so it would make sense to target him.

Any other names out there that Jones might go after?

I guess if there's any good news, it's that it will be difficult to find anyone worse than Sunseri.

Vangorder is a douche nozzle, and I hope he burns in hell. I dont want him and his 80s porn stash anywhere near the Vols.

has he been let go from Auburn? looks like a good coach,makes you wonder what happened this year at Auburn though

Of course, Randy Shannon is still available, too.

Also, I predicate all of this based on the idea that "The Chief" doesn't want to return to UT. Would rather have Chavis than anyone else, but I think he's happy at LSU.

Hell. No. I hope Coach does his homework because this will be the most important decision he makes in regards to his staff, IMO of course.

Maybe, we can get Bill Parcells, he was a great GM, HC and one hell of a good looking guy in 87...we can get him, joe gibbs, Jesus, God, the easter bunny and my nieghbor bob who can build anything,,,then we will get back to the promise land

Vangorder's defenses actually ranked pretty well in Atlanta. But the players began to tune him out in the last season. I think the biggest risk is his personality. But I think it's tough to deny that the guy knows what he's doing.

Still, I'd be pretty happy with Randy Shannon, as well. I also think that Shannon has experience that could help Butch Jones a bit more.

Gene Chizik is available. He is a proven DC. He had good stops at Auburn and Texas. He's just not the best HC.

If he brings Jancek I wouldn't be upset. He did good things at UGA and it would be hard to find an available DC with better numbers than what Cinci had lately

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that many of us were around before the likes system was even implemented.
