...the death star, he is not.

To me, more so than even Hopson (who gets at least something of a pass from me because he's a true freshman), B-Dub is the biggest disappointment on the team. I saw a ton of potential in him, especially defensively, at the end of last season, and now he just looks lost out there. Out of position, and playing with literally zero confidence, especially when he takes it to the rack. When he's in the game and Chism is sitting (and Chism can't and shouldn't go more than 28-30 minutes per game), we are exposed. If we are to turn this season around, B-Dub needs to step up. Get mean. Start playing with passion and purpose. We're finally starting to see it with Chism, and his newfound intensity has been a bright spot. I'm hoping some of that can rub off on Williams.

I agree. Williams has been here and should have improved more. Maybe he's just getting used to his newer, smaller, less fatty body.

He looked good early this year. The fact he's not starting may show why he's looking lost. His biggest problem was overpersuing the blocked shot. He got a lot of fouls called on him for the body after the block (he still gets bad calls bc he's a big guy). I've noticed him going straight up more the past few weeks and it makes him look timid. He's still getting the calls. It takes a true defender and athlete to be a good shotblocker today without getting a lot of fouls. Refs tend to look at the result of the shooter falling down from his momentum being taken away from getting stuffed rather than what caused him to fall. Tall lanky guys can do it better because they can maneuver better for the block. Big guys like BW usually make contact if they jump in any way towards the defender.

Williams has improved, but despite losing a ton of weight, he still has 400 lb. feet. His footwork puts him in bad position much of the time. Part of that is the learning curve of a guy who still hasn't played all that much basketball, and part of it is a physical limitation that, although it should improve each year, will never be fully overcome.

He is still the biggest body we can throw at opposing big uglies, and that is something this team needs, and he shows nice soft hands at times, but the downside is that he just isn't very agile.
