I really like the Brick by Brick slogan Coach Jones is using as a motto for the recruiting he is doing and the foundation that is being built. As such, I wanted a piece of memorabilia to add to my Vol collection that displayed this slogan. I've seen the bricks handed out to the players and recruits, normal brick with some wording painted on. While this is more practical for doing a great number or doing them quickly, I wanted something with a bit more "polish".
I first sculpted a medallion that could be placed on the face of a standard sized brick. My plan was too mold the sculpt, make pulls with cold cast aluminum, and adhere it to the brick face. Before I got too far with it, I decided that simply having a brick, even with a logo on it, wouldn't really stand out in my collection. I thought about different stands that could be added at the base of the brick, but still decided to go in a different direction.
I decided having something that could be hung on the wall and also feature the slogan "BRICK BY BRICK" would be more appropriate. I found a line of veneer brick that had the same face dimensions as a normal brick (7-5/8"x3-2/4"), but was only 1/2" thick. The medallion could still be adhered to the face, while attaching the brick to a plaque would allow plenty of room around the brick for the slogan.
To that end, I used a block style font to create the slogans on the plaque "TENNESSEE FOOTBALL BRICK BY BRICK". I toyed around with the layout and sizes until I found a look that I liked. Framed it out with some 3/4"x3/4" trim on the outside.
Here's the end result:
The overall size came out to about 8-1/2"x10-1/2" and 1-1/4" at the thickest point.
I had always intended on doing a few more to give to friends and family, who are Vol fans, as Christmas gifts. However, as I now have plenty of bricks and can still pull casts from the medallion mold, I wanted to offer them on here as well.
I'm pretty well stocked up on all supplies except for trim, so I wanted to see if there was much interest, to gauge how much more trim to buy.
As for cost, looking at probably $40 plus shipping, which would come out to $10-$15 via USPS Priority with tracking and insurance.
