I was talking to a top assistant to Jeff Byrd, General Manager of BMS, this evening, and it looks like the sell-out streak is about to end. The race day walk-up crowd managed to barely eak out an "official" sell-out in 2009. We are to ignore the seats that had no butts in them.
As of today, a little over 100,000 tickets have been sold, far short of the 160,000 capacity. Between 20 & 25 luxury suites are unsold. These are the most expensive (read most profitable) per seat tickets in the house, so a considerable reduction in revenue is expected.
The big factor in determining the walk-up race day ticket sales is the weather, a crap shoot this time of year in upper East Tennessee. Two years ago we had snow.
A side bar to this story is that Jeff Byrd is continuing to recover, and is being treated after a brain tumor was removed. Please join me in adding Jeff to your prayers. He is one of the good guys.
