Lately the QB of Kentucky and before that Georgia......

I'm not sure which is worse, your players going into the portal or your players just giving up entirely?

I'm surprised more guys don't do this. He definitely could not cut it at the SEC level (although UK's offensive line was horrible) and isn't interested in being a backup or playing at a lower level of competition. Was a borderline 5-star recruit coming out of HS though.

It’s been known he was gonna retire for quite a while now. At least it isn’t catching anyone in the program off guard. First time I heard he was considering it was during the middle of the year.

I remember Some friends of mine texting me about how he was this future superstar during his recruitment. They weren’t even UT fans, they were thinking he might go to Penn State or Oklahoma. Don’t blame him for moving on in life.

The psychological blow of that must be difficult to deal with too. He was a superstar in HS, and I'm sure there and early in his UGA career he thought there was a decent chance he could play professionally. Then you go from that to out of football entirely in just a couple of years.

He already had graduated from UGA so I'm sure he'll be fine.

first player to retire from the portal?

While it changes from year to year, only about 40% of players entering the portal find a "home". There's probably not much of a demand out there for Bowling Greens 3rd string punter.

For many, I guess it is a way of retiring without retiring. That way you can always do an Uncle Rico and complain about the coach when you are 50.

Makes me think of Harrison Bailey. I hate it for HB, he went from High School star to starter at Tennessee to can't get on the field anywhere.

Now I have seen everything. A college football player 'retiring'.

Happens occasionally. We only usually hear about it when it is a QB though.

I mean if the 3rd string punter from Memphis gives up the game, it's not exactly front page news on ESPN.

Didn't JT Daniels "retire" just last year after like his 23rd college?
