Bronco Mendenhall, current BYU coach, is a very skilled defensive coach and has always had good defenses. However, let's not forget they lost one game 7-6 this year and won one game 6-3. The offenses have been very pedestrian. Also, outside LDS kids, his recruiting has been average to below average.
Moreover, as I have noted before, he is LDS and very, very devout. Some have suggested, not without support, that he is using the BYU coaching job as a stepping stone into a higher church position rather than a better coaching job. He may be the hardest coach to pull from his school than anyone in FBS.
