Bruce Pearl: Auburn coach for life

For me, this isn’t all that hard. Pearl shouldn’t have lied about the BBQ at his house and he shouldn’t have tried to get the recruits to lie about it. It was a low level violation and he should’ve just confessed and it would’ve been a nonissue and that shows a real lack of judgment on his part. Recognizing that I don’t have all the information, I also think UT AD should’ve done a better job of protecting Pearl and letting him know we had his back if he just confessed. I’m also not sure we should’ve canned him even after he lied as he had UT basketball near its highest level, if not highest level, in history. We should’ve done what was necessary to keep him no matter what in my mind. We could’ve avoided all the agony with Cuonzo, Tyndall, and the first two Barnes years. So, I think we should’ve never let Pearl go and I wish he was still UT’s coach.

That said, I’m very satisfied with Barnes. I think he’s a great coach and he has UT near the highest levels of its history. Since Pearl was let go, I cannot imagine UT doing much better than Barnes. And so, I am a big Barnes fan.

Everyone knew pearl was capable of building a great program anywhere he got the chance. Happy I was a student when he hit his stride with us. Goes to
Show that keeping elite coaches is more important than cowering to the NCAA. I’d have taken a 5 year post season ban to skip counzo and Donnie ball. Barnes has stabilized us and done a fantastic job. We can all agree is stings watching Pearl and kiffin do welL at other SEC schools. Hopefully our new admin knows how to
Not ruin everything

I enjoyed our teams under Pearl but as I was discussing with a major donor on Tuesday at lunch…we had some really bad character recruits under Bruce. Clearly not all …but several. I think…don’t know…but think ….if Bruce had stayed we would have still experienced NCAA issues again. Wisdom is not a characteristic I associate with Bruce. So I’m very thankful Rick Barnes came to UT.

Bruce is a good bb floor coach imo. He is also personable and charismatic. He cheats at recruiting, but he is pretty good at it and for the everyone cheats crowd then that's not an issue. A case can be made for Saban, Smart and others cheating in recruiting so ...
Auburn is a school that tolerates, supports, and endorses cheating so probably a match made in heaven.
I look for him to continue to be successful at Auburn unfortunately. He has a great team this year, and he had great teams when he was here. People probably don't give him enough credit.

There is absolutely no way Pearl could’ve survived coaching through a 3 year postseason ban and off-campus recruiting ban and still won big at UT. All the good players would’ve transferred out and no one good would’ve replaced them. No one wants to go somewhere they would have nothing to play for. It’s absurd for anyone to suggest that UT should’ve tried to ride that out. We would’ve been worse than Wade Houston’s 5-22 team.

I’m not gonna lie, I would take Bruce back in a heartbeat when Barnes’ tenure is over. To get punished over a cookout and lying about it. Really most coaches would lie about committing an infraction like that if they thought there was no proof. Hell, look at Will Wade. My point is this, we never should have been made to fire him by the NCAA and that’s basically what happened. How successful have we been against AUBY? And that isn’t going to get much better with Pearl there.
I know there has been seemingly some bad blood between Pearl and the university and frankly I would feel the same way he does. I can forgive him for a jab here and there as a Tennessee fan because it’s not meant for me or our players.

He was punished for lying about it, not us

To be fair, he was punished for coming clean about lying about where a picture was taken. The violation he lied about was a minor secondary violation which is no longer a violation.
He should’ve never lied about such a small thing. Or he never should’ve admitted the lie. That’s what every other coach does and they keep their jobs. Cal, Self, Wade, Roy Williams and on and on and on….

We didn’t play the post season without him anyway. You guys are nuts. I seen people not liking Bruce on here before he got in trouble, I don’t understand, it was like they wanted a golf coach or something. I would have happily supported ut admin if they accepted punishment and kept pearl, like I said, it’s not like we accomplished anything during the time we would have been punished
