From earlier today on Mayhem in the AM. (790 The Zone in Atlanta)

Sports Radio 790 The Zone

(Scroll down to his interview)

Very candid and gracious, imo.

(Also a Derek Dooley interview down the page from last week)

I listened to it this morning on the way to work and there is no doubt he knows he messed up. He said at one point do you want me to write the book on how to lose a 10 million dollar job? Bruce still loves the Vols and it's sad it had to turn out this way but it was his own fault.

Yet Calipari gets to keep his job and even gets a multi-million dollar extension in spite of serial violations. Go figure.

Bruce's contrite attitude is refreshing. It is probably also calcuated to garner some degree of mitigated punishment as to him personally from the NCAA.

Anyway, good luck Bruce.

I still like the man. I hope he coaches again, and I will pull for whoever he coaches. As long as its not FLA, KY, or Vandy. Which has about a .000000009% chance of happening.

Yeah but when he cheats, he's usually good at it, at least lying. He finds ways to get out

Pearl made a mistake. He has admitted it. I feel in the long run we will regret not standing with him. If AA sanctions are less because we fired Pearl I am not sure of the net gain for the university. If we can't make the AA tournament anyway (and that seems to be the consensus on here) then what have we gained by letting him go. My fear is that South Carolina, Auburn, or another SEC team will pick him up when he is elligible. Hope we are not in the SEC cellar for the next twenty years. I fear the old adage that with change you always know what you are losing, but, not what you will be getting.

We?
Speak for yourself. I've always supported Bruce and always will, especially against the ncaa, the most immoral organization this side of La Cosa Nostra.

Maybe if Pearl remained at U.T., then the NCAA would have interpreted that as being U.T. being defiant against them. We would then have a cloud over our head and the NCAA would surely not care for us.

For instance, if we had an issue that was brought to the NCAA in three years, such as a player being granted
a 6th year of eligibility due to a medical red-shirt, then
I would assume that the NCAA would not rule in our favor. They would hold it against us that we didn't fire Pearl. Firing Pearl was the safest move to make. I wish it had not happened but it is the safest move.
Pearl will not get the job at ESPN but he will probably end up at an S.E.C. orientated basketball t.v. program or
the 4th coach on a pro team. Once he is eligible to be reinstated in the NCAA, he will get a job at a lower level University or college and will have to start his college coaching career over at the age of 50 something.
