I debated whether to post this or not, but decided to in the best interest of all fans. First let me say I know Bruton Smith personally and he is a great guy. He is also a marketing genius and astute business man. He has tried for a number of years now (all the way back to when Doug Dickey was AD in fact) to put this game together. VT was always on board, UT never would agree. Now that UT has finally agreed to play, it will be a massive success, you can bank on that. It will be a sell out, regardless of ticket price. I know many individuals and families have and continue to have hard times due to the economy these past few years. If you are considering / planning on attending the game, I would advise you to wait as long as possible before jumping in and buying tickets. As I said earlier, the game will be sold out, and the longer tickets remain, the lower they will go in price. Bruton is not doing this for the money, he has plenty. He's doing it for the exposure it will bring to him and BRW, and to accomplish something that has never been done before. I just wanted to share my thoughts, especially to those of you who have been most affected by the bad economy. Look forward to the game. GO VOLS :td:

Bruton thinks big and enjoys the spectacle. You can bet he will be in his suite to enjoy making history. It's not all about the money but having worked for him for 10 years, I can assure you that success or failure will be measured by the receipts.

People who have money want more. You don't see Peyton Manning working for peanuts.

I know him very well, and yes the bottom line matters in any business venture. but in this case making history trumps the gate receipts. He has pursued this over 10 years for the history, not the money.

If you ask Peyton which means the most to him ... 1) Being the highest paid player ever in NFL history or 2) Winning another Superbowl and cementing his legacy as one of, if not the greatest NFL QB ever to play ... I assure you it would be number 2.

Bruton might be a genius, but he missed badly on the basketball thing. I heard him say once that he was looking into starting a basketball league to rival the NBA. He said he wanted to make the basket 12 feet high to eliminate the slam dunk because the slam dunk was taking the excitement out of basketball. For a man with all of his obvious marketing ability, that one was a head scratcher to me.

In a day when NASCAR was declining (and yes fans it was back in the late 80s and early 90s), Bruton sunk mountains of capital into BMS to make it a premier destination for fans and racers alike.

How did that turn out...when NASCAR started the upswing in popularity in the 90s, Bristol was one of the first tracks mentioned to garner a second race during the season...that my friends is called ROI...return on investment.

Is Bruton doing this for the money?...sure he is. But, is there a higher alterior motive at work here...DEFINITELY !!! Bruton Smith wants to cement Bristol as an icon in not only Southern history, heritage, and culture, but in American history, heritage, and culture.

If there is never another a game played at Bristol, this one will be one that everyone rembers for an eternity.

On a side note - Can anyone say CFB National Title game in Daytona?

SMI is one of two publicly held companies that Bruton controls. He's not going to jeopardize corporate earnings for history. I promise you this is a calculated venture with a scorecard and the points are dollar bills.

You are so wrong it's pathetic. Speedway Motorsports did not buy BMS until 1996. Google it. It was already a two race nascar event. All he did was add 50,000 seats.
