Injuries could happen in high school too, does that mean high school student athletes should be paid to play or be able to declare for the draft before they graduate. As unfortunate as the injury was, he is getting a top notch education. And as violent as the NFL is, a career ending injury could happen at anytime and to have an eduction to fall back on would soften the blow.

Probably in the minority here, but I have never understood what the difference is in IBM telling me they won't hire me unless I have a college degree and a certain GPA; and the NFL telling someone they won't hire them unless they prove themselves with 3 years of college play. I see nothing wrong with private employers setting hiring rules that they feel provide the best value to their stakeholders.

There are some gifted kids coming out of high school, but I'm sure some not so mature kids would want to declare. Those kids wouldn't be mature either mentally or physically for the NFL.
