Its sad to see two of our supposed to be players (one commitment and another actually signed LOI) being Heisman candidate while we will dig into 3rd string for ours ..
With Fulmer our defense would still be rock solid as it always was for TN ..and our offense would have improved drastically ..not saying we would be BAMA but we would be Georgia/SC ..9-3 average years with occasional championship contention (with bryce petty may be)
Stupid decisions cost a lot .. no way a pac-10 team hangs 60 point on a TN defense lead by Chavis .... and if you don't believe me wait until LSU destroys that Oregon 'fast paced' craaap if they meet..!!

Sorry to bring Fulmer topic again but as I saw Bryce Petty article today could not resist.

UT made a huge mistake getting rid of Fulmer. Although it seems like when you bring it up people on here just don't want to believe it. I agree with you 100% OP.

Chief is the best D coordinator in the country when he has a D full of NFL talent. Unfortunately he quit going out and getting it. Fortunately for him, now it all lives within 100 miles of him. And several less talented offensive teams than Oregon put an ass whipping on us back in Fulmer's time.

Anytime there is a Tajh Boyd thread started after a loss, it should immediately be deleted.

Don't forget Kiffin blowing off Cam Newton. We could have had a much better 2010 (possibly 2011 too) season. Kiffin was much like Hamilton....a curse upon this program, but as was said over and over and over and over...again...Fulmer had allowed this program to decline steadily over a 10yr period...not just one or two seasons.

Had Hamilton hired Gary Patterson from the start, we'd have been back in SEC East title contention by now. He had the best record of taking less talent and getting more from them.

So, he missed there. He had a chance to do it over again the next year...and he botches the hire even worse. 2 coaches with losing records in 2 hires. Can't get anywhere with your AD making those kinds of catastrophic decisions.

I think Hart deserves some blame, here, too. Why? Cause, after a promising 2011 season goes into the tank and we barely escape a loss at home to Vandy and then lose to a horrid KY team...80% of his staff jumps ship.

That is the BIGGEST red flag you could ever have for a coach. When your own, hand picked, staff gives your HC a vote of "No Confidence"...it's time to have him pack his things and leave town. I was saying the same thing, then. That once his staff bailed, it was time for the AD to stop the bleeding, right then and there. Not wait for gangrene to set in.

Hart set this program back at least a full year, with his indecision. Butch at least had/has the credentials that neither Kiffin nor Dooley had...and I think that will account for a lot. But to sustain his recruiting momentum, and solidify his message/sales pitch, CBJ must pull off some upsets this year and show that this program is indeed on it's way up.

The same people that don't want to believe it were predicting 7-5, 8-4 or better this year. Sunshine Pumpers seem to rule here.

I do agree that we would not have sunk to 4 consecutive losing seasons under Fulmer and he had a top 10 class in the works in 08, but it was clear that he was being passed over by the next gen of SEC coaches (Sabsn, Meyer, Richt, Miles).

Hammy botched the whole transition royally from giving Fulmer the extension and huge buy-out 4 months before firing him, to hiring Kiffin, doling out retention bonuses they collected just a week or two before bolting, and then the Dooley panic hire and ridiculous buy-out clause that Hart had to uphold.

Ultimately, dwelling on this is getting tiresome. We finally have the right coach but he has his work cut out for him.
