What teams do we need to lose and play themselves out of the NCAA tourney field?

I'm of the mindset that this team has played themselves into a situation where they ultimately control their own destiny. With the rough beginning to the season they dug themselves into a pretty deep hole. With a good showing in the SEC Tourney which means a finals appearance the NCAA tourney committee will not be able to ignore the Vols.

at the moment - the last 4 in's and the first four out's all losing would help

...so teams like Texas, Northwestern, USF, Colorado St, Xavier, VCU, Oregon, NC State, Miami, St. Joseph's, Dayton, Colorado all losing their last games and/or exiting their respective tournaments early would help

maybe but didn't they leave out Miss St a few years ago when they made the SEC finals?

(or am I remembering incorrectly)

Texas and USF have lost today. I am not sure about the others but Murray pulling that win out has to help as well.

I haven't studied all the bubble teams but it seems with the Big East/Pac 12 troubles maybe we are in the mix without making the championship game.

Texas needs to lose again; the general thoughts seemed to be that winning against KU would get them in, but that (they weren't expected to win tonight) winning 1-2 in their tournament should also be able to do so

Of course, they do not win the SEC tourney then they can always be left out. But, if they make the SEC tourney title game I feel like they will be in considering their last two months of play.

Their overall record will be much improved with two more victories hitting that magic 20 wins, and their conf. record speaks for itself with a second/third place finish, their RPI will be borderline and their strength of schedule will be in the 30s more than likely.

Miami (FL) [17-11 (8-7), RPI: 49, SOS: 34],
West Virginia [18-12 (8-9), RPI: 51, SOS: 11]
Northwestern [17-12 (7-10), RPI: 50, SOS: 8]
Texas [19-11 (9-8), RPI: 55, SOS: 31]
Xavier [18-11 (9-6), RPI: 53, SOS: 38]
Saint Joseph's [19-12 (9-7), RPI: 56, SOS: 32]
Dayton [18-11 (8-7), RPI: 70, SOS: 55]
UCF [20-9 (9-6), RPI: 62, SOS: 101]

This doesn't include today, so I'm not sure what happened in all of the games. We needed these people to lose today and have early exits. All are considered bubble teams.

Texas is getting drilled. Murray St winning opens up a spot. I may be crazy but I think we can possibly get in with one win in the SEC tourney. We are playing that well right now and I believe it may be good enough.

again though, texas is apparently in a position where they could afford this (expected) drilling. their resume's apparently good enough.

pretty much need them out first round or lose (maybe even lose bad) second round of the big 12 tourney

I agree without doing any research. 1 win might be good enough.

What makes you think this? I can't find many places that are giving us consideration.

I have no real basis for that opinion other than the fact that the Big East and Pac 12 will have use less at large spots than in years past. I also think over the course of the next week the fact we will be the 2seed will be used in arguing our case and that is a very strong trump card for us.

Fair enough, it is hard to imagine them leaving us out and sending 5 other teams when we are the #2 seed.

That is exactly what makes it tougher to get in IMO. In mediocre leagues anybody including those not projected in NCAA can win conference tourneys stealing at large bids. Gotta root for all conference champions to win the conference tourneys.

The "2seed" being heard around the nation all week long will have a huge effect on our hopes of a bid. I think the media will use that very strongly.

So sec gets 3 teams?

What is this tournament you speak of? A 32 team field?

It has happened a couple times recently. I think Miss ST and Bama have went in the wrong direction. We are so far down with zero room for error. I hope I am wrong especially about us obviously.

We also need no teams to get hot and win their conference tourny like Georgia did a few years ago. Want as many at large spots open for us.
