U.S. government funds mosque renovation and rehabilitation around the world | The Daily Caller - Breaking News, Opinion, Research, and Entertainment

Just a cursory search of the term “mosque” on the State Department’s list of “projects” reveals 26 examples of federal funds going to fund construction, renovation, and rehabilitation of various mosques abroad. The benefiting countries include Bulgaria, Pakistan, Mali, Tunisia, Afghanistan, Benin, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Albania, Egypt, Tunisia, the Maldives, Yemen, Turkmenistan, Tanzania, Uganda, Azerbaijan, Sudan, Serbia and Montenegro.

“Interestingly, however, according to the Code of Federal Regulations, “USAID funds may not be used for the acquisition, construction, or rehabilitation of structures to the extent that those structures are used for inherently religious activities.”

One can only assume we have an outlaw regime in Washigton that has no regard whatsoever for our laws.

Your stimulus money at work.

This is EXACTLY what drives me batty about the budget. They'll say "Well, it isn't that much compared to the total budget"... SO WHAT? If you have a budget deficit like ours you cut EVERY non-essential expense regardless of how small or large.

Interestingly, according to the article, the seeming inconsistency between the CFR prohibition and the practice of funding such things was dealt with by the BUSH administration's DOJ, which issued an opinion in 2003 that allowed it.

So much for the theory implied of course by you that the Muslim currently in the White House is behind it.

Oops.

LG, it doesn't matter WHO makes horrible decisions... they're still horrible. We can't AFFORD non-sense like this.

FWIW, Bush was NOT a fiscal conservative. He grew entitlements and never took one significant step toward eliminating unnecessary spending. On fiscal matters, you all need to go ahead and claim him as one of your own. The Obama policies are pretty much an extension of what Bush and the Dems in Congress did over his last two years... ON SPEED.

I agree with you that it is totally valid to complain about the money being spent on this (or anything, really). In fact, in my view, the rule ought to be that EVERYTHING in the budget is on the table. No sacred cows (pardon the phrase in this context).

But that wasn't gsvol's real point in this post. Any review of every single post he has made in the last few months is that all of them are, in form or another, an argument that Obama is a Muslim in Christian's clothing.

He implies that this practice of funding mosques is a consequence of that. And of course he's wrong.

The thing is he gives document after document to support his contentions. I still don't believe Obama is a Muslim... at least not one they would claim... but I think the kind of "christian" he claims to be is more dangerous than any Islamofascist.

The difference though between you and him is that he has presented far, FAR more evidence for his condemnation of Obama than you have for yours of Beck et al.

FTR, I suspect the mosques being rebuilt were damaged by US or NATO military action... just a guess. Or maybe they were part of a rebuilding effort we agreed to support.

I still don't think it should have been spent... but I doubt it is a big deal this time.
