Never really have seen the point of that dinner (especially for republican presidents), really. He pokes fun at himself, which shows he can dish it and take it, but really seems odd to be joking around with a group of people that are working against the war effort. Plus, I'm not quite sure how respectful that is to the soldiers coming home in coffins.

I see no need for it. I could do without a president that acts as Dennis Miller.

For once, TVA displayed some logical thinking I can consent with.

Yet another TVA post that makes no sense.

apparently he forgets that it has been done by every president since Coolidge. so the point would be, in a word, tradition.

I realize that. Just don't see much sense in laughing it up right now with a group of people that are working hard to undermine our efforts in Iraq, provide aid/comfort to our enemies...

What is wrong with Dennis Miller?

Just picked a random comedian out of the air. I could have said that commie Bill Maher.

The point is, I don't think that right now is the time to be yucking it up with a bunch of flagburning journalists while our boys are coming home in coffins.

i'm on TVA's side here, the media delights in the fact that we are struggling in Iraq, and they are doing nothing to help it. I cannot fault the media entirely, but it our day and age, too much information is dispensed to the general public (via the media) to give the military the degree of Operational Security required to conduct an effective campaign....Average Joe American knew we were going into Fallujah a few years ago before the Marines and Cavalrymen in the battle knew they were going in.

Also, the fact that when a GI commits an act of cold blooded murder, it is on the news for several weeks every day, but the press forgives the Rebels (and/or) Terrorists after a brief "76 Iraqi civilians were killed today in various incidents(insert fake Katie Couric serious face here)"

Back during the Battle of the Bulge, America was outraged at the Malmedy Massacre, where the SS slaughtered an American force that had surrendered...In turn, the media had the Patriotism not to report the revenge that occured whenever a member of the SS was dealt with accordingly in retribution...The difference is, at that time, the Media was PATRIOTIC, now it is Liberal/SENSATIONAL, they like the shock value of American "War Crimes", as that will get people to tune in

"Our boys" are coming home in coffins for one reason only: Elements within this administration (and none more than Bush himself) have shown complete and utter indifference for the lives of our young men and women in uniform by sending them into a conflict for which there was NO justification in the first place. You can argue until you're blue in the face, but had it not been for the lies and fabricated intelligence that conned Cogress into authorizing this war, the American body count in Iraq over the past 4 years would be zero. The blame lies squarely on this president and elements within his administration - PERIOD! Frankly, I have no patience for those who, after a wealth and volumes have emerged to prove the administration's argument for going to Iraq amounts to pounds of ********, still argue this war in supportive terms.

No justification? Are you guys still reading from those talking points?

Don't get it twisted, I'm no Bush fan. The main reason is because "victory at any and all costs" has not been executed in Iraq. You can't do an opporation like that with half measured strategies designed to make the war more "sanitized" for our left wing talking heads in America and in the UN. That is why the press dinner angers me. It is an example of Bush trying to appease his enemies here at home (the leftwing media). Bush should have known the day he stepped into the White House that no matter what he does, the press was going to criticize and second guess him. He had to know that!

But handcuffing our guys, not supporting them when they come back home, Vietnam style incrementalism/troop increases... he fluster cucked the strategery. That is where Bush's error has been.

But you cannot make the arguement that we should not have gone over there. Evidence has been coming out since we tore down the statue about Iraqi training centers for terror groups.

Going over wasn't the mistake. The execution of the war is the problem.

Makes a lot of sense. Guys were itching so badly to fight that they generated this sensational quiltwork of lies to support an invasion that would assuredly result in a long term occupation. I get it.

Add me to your personal hate list too, because I agree with SK 100%.

As your #1 goal? That's an awfully sad commentary on your life.
No, my #1 goal is to get April's bills paid. Watching the Tennessee Vols win the SECCG in 2007 is my #2 goal. Watching King George tried for crimes against humanity is somewhere later in the pecking order.

harboring a terrorist is the only means of undermining our efforts? How about calling for a specific date for withdrawal? that count?
