The sound you hear is the death knell for the programs in Blacksburg and Tallahassee.

Davis is unquestionably a good coach.

UNC is a program that has always had problems sustaining anything above mediocrity.

While I think this is a big upgrade, I'm not ready to annoint them kings of the ACC just yet. Even if Va Tech and FSU stand still (meaning continue to decline,) Georgia Tech is currently on the rise, as are BC and Wake, even if it isn't sustainable in Demonland. Virginia and Maryland and NC State and Clemson will field good teams some years, and Miami will be back at some point.

It is a tough neighborhood to try and build a national power, even for a top tier coach, similar to what Holtz and Spurrier have tried to do at SC, or what Orgeron has to face at Ole Miss (of course, he is a tier in and of himself.)

Butch Davis v. Chan Gailey is the equivalent of Ric Flair versus Iron Mike Sharpe. Gailey is an idiot.

Do you think it will hurt Tennessee overall in the region having Davis around?
My guess is that Davis will focus on the Carolinas, Floridia, and Texas. It certainly won't make things easier for UT having another viable choice for prospects in the region.

It kinda scares me, it still feels like Tennessee is still an average football team that is still trying to right the ship with tactics that are a decade old.

We are a good football team trying to get over the hump. What tactics are you referring to that are a decade old?

Not really referring to recruiting.........just playing style.............Cut has helped out a lot, why would a top flight offensive lineman come to UT?

I know the immediate response is playing time but who have we put in the NFL that is an animal?

The top flight kids want a great chance to play in the NFL..........

I could be wrong.....

Unless Davis is a different animal, it won't hurt in WNC. UNC doesn't think any HS football is played west of Hickory, NC.
If a kid within the borders of the Tar Heel State can play at the ACC level, Butch Davis will be in contact with them.

I'm sure it will. The guy has bled orange his whole life and, even though Butch is a good coach, he won't be turning UNC into UT caliber during Johnson's college career(although UT needs to improve on that). He jumped on the offer right as it was put on the table and immediately posted on Quest who he was and why he made the decision.
