With 10+ days rest:

* Coach Jones' teams are 11-4, including bowl games.

* They have won 10 of the last 12.

* They have won 8 of the last 9.

* The last five victims are Va Tech, Vandy, Pitt, Louisville and South Carolina.

* The last loss came at West Virginia in 2010, a team that finished #22 in the BCS rankings.

* The loss at West Virginia is Butch's only loss with the full bye week, 14 days rest before a non-bowl game. Interestingly, WVU had 15 days rest before this one, having played on a Friday before a bye week.

* 3 of the 4 losses were by 3 points.

Some more fun stats:

Vols are 79-37-9 after an open date

General Neyland was 10-0-3 (6-0 SEC)

Butch is 1-0 (1-0 SEC)

Dooley was 1-2 (0-2 SEC)

Kiffin was 0-1 (0-1 SEC)

Fulmer was 25-8 (23-8 SEC)

Majors was 16-13-2 (3-12-2 SEC)

Battle was 7-2 (4-2 SEC)

Dickey was 8-0 (6-0 SEC)

This is an update of the thread from before the South Carolina game, which is at the link below.

Im curious to know something else about Jones. Did he say that Tennessee was his dream job. Or did I miss hear something. If this is his dream job. What about Tennessee makes this his dream job being from Michigan.

Just as storied a program as UMich, but doesn't have to convince kids from Florida that 2 feet of snow and 40 MPH winds is going to be the coolest thing ever?

Last home game for the seniors. Do or die game for the team. instate rivalry game. I'd say Butch will have plenty of motivational tools at his disposal.

10 days of rest won't help a poorly coached and mentally depleted football team even against Vandy.

I would have agree with you. We should beat Vandy with this team but ain't nothing guaranteed these days. Love the recruiting. Off the charts. But coaching, not so much, to date.

I agree, the recruiting is top notch. I think CBJ is the right guy, we just need a major overhaul in the assistant category.

After watching Palardy nearly run down a guy who was pulling away from all the rest of the guys in orange . . . .

we have us a problem that we need to recruit our way out of.

Does the "having extra time to prepare" thing tell a tale on how good coaches are with a week only to get ready?Seems to me they get paid to get them ready no matter what..

Hopefully Vandy will be looking ahead to their tilt with Wake Forest and this will be a trap game for them. At least we won't have to worry about playing another team that has played Arky the previous week.

He was only in the running for Purdue and Colorado... Whew. We snagged him when his demand was highest.

I'm sure after those second rate jobs, the Tennessee job was a dream come true. Tennessee
has made a habit of hiring coaches that were beneath our school.

Hopefully this won't follow that trend.
