While not completely disqualifying him from being able to succeed, his performance against Dooley is still a legitimate concern. Of the scant Dooley wins vs. somewhat respectable opponents, this was the only one I felt he and his coaching staff actually noticeably out coached the other coaching staff. That was with Wilcox on the staff, but its still a legitimate concern.
They never made any adjustment to stop Hunter, got snake bit by a great gamble by Dooley to on side kick to get ahead in what started as a track meet, and stopped scoring with Tennessee after some adjustments Tennessee made in the Second Quarter. In addition, they got stuffed on the 4th and inches. Were it not for an late turnover that resulted in Bear Cat points, this thing would have been an absolute bloodbath.
I'll also point out, this is the only game a Dooley staff defended the Read Option with any consistency.
