Just a few stats from NCAA.com in regards to how Cincy stacked up on D compared to UT. I understand the difference in conferences but it is still interesting considering the big ? people have with Butch Jones and defense. Some of these statistics are quite scary be warned..
Total D = Cincy 41 UT 109
Scoring D = Cincy 12 UT 104
Sacks= Cincy 29(tie) UT 97
Turnover Margin = Cincy 39(tie) UT 85(tie)
And while Obviously UT had one of the best passing offenses in the country Cincy has the 31'st best rushing offense with 2397 yards compared to UT at 63 with 1924 yards.
All this was accomplished with pretty lackluster recruiting classes. During his time at Cincy he had rankings of 59, 49, and 50. In the same time Dooley had rankings of 9, 13, and 17 (rivals). Jones did WAY MORE with way less than Dooley was able to do.
Homerun hire? Nope. Good hire? In my opinion yes. I am more excited to see how it pans out than with either of our last two coaches who had losing HC records.
