Both from smaller/weaker conferences but have won wherever they have coached. Butch has won conference titles and has plenty of 10 win seasons, and Sumlin did pretty well against Conference USA opponents.

Sumlin's team was doubted at the beginning of the season just like Tennessee's team will be. I believe the difference will be coaching, and I'm glad we have Butch here. He gets the most out of whoever puts on that jersey, and we have a lot of talented guys here already. Here's to hoping our year plays out like aTm's season this year. Go VOLS.

Unfortunately one big difference will be the talent in the back yard. I live in Texas and believe me, Kevin Sumlin is about to tear it up in recruiting down here. He walks into a 5 star Texas HS player's living room and says, "You want to stay here in Texas and compete in the SEC or go play in that no defense conference?" And it is selling!

As well as it should be. Sumlin is certainly doing a great job. I hope BJ can emulate that kind of success, but A&M has a bright future with Kevin running the show.

We should give A&M a big congratulations. With the talent in TX and now the premier football team in the state in the premier conference - look out. A&M did more than improve the TV package. It is a quality team, quality university and they will make our conference better. I can't imagine a defensive player in TX wanting to play in-state and not going to A&M.

i didn't see it coming this quickly, but the timing of sumlin and manziel couldn't have been more perfect.

but, i warned everybody that a&m is a potential perennial power and i was laughed at because their football history isn't the greatest in the world.

they have more money than god and are sitting on a unbelievable talent producing state. their is nothing that can keep a&m from being a force to be reckoned with other than a&m

Butch had 3 10+ win years, including an 11 win year at Central Michigan. Comparable resume to Sumlin.

Yes, Sumlin had an undefeated regular season, but his conference made the Big East look like the NFC East.

dream on.

Brian McCat, I think you're lost. The basketball forum is over there. As far as Tennessee fans are concerned, KY doesn't have a football team, so your opinion is null and void.

Thanks that's what I was getting at. That, and the fact that coming in they weren't expected to make much noise. However, both coaches are great at utilizing the talent at hand, and that could work out well for us. Coach'em up Butch!!!
