Hey Boc, could you cut and paste that last sentence from Butch into the "Numbers Thread"? Kinda want to read Lebanon repeat, for the 900th time, that we're only gonna sign 16 this cycle.

This is a good summary. One thing to add...When he was asked about recruiting the state of FL, Butch said there are so many good athletes in Florida that FS ad UF couldn't have them all. Additionally, said that his recruiting style is based upon "fit" with his program rather than rankings.

I'll be the 1st to admit that I don't understand how the internal recruiting numbers work. I know you can have 85 scholarship players. I know there's a 25 rule in there somewhere but it seems to have the same meaning as the posted speed limit....the speed limit is 65 but you're ok as long as you don't go past 73. :loco:

Well that's one way to glue the pieces together....young team, focussing on the process and not the result, etc.

The record may not be where we want it, but I think this team will be exciting to watch. Similar to the end of 2010 when Bray, Hunter, & Rogers stepped up. They were fun to watch.

I agree it can be a little confusing. That being said, I've heard the Director of Player Personnel Bob Welton, Doug Matthews and now Butch Jones, say that we're gonna sign a "full class"/25 this year, give or take 1 or 2 depending on how many walkons we give schollys to (ie, Gilliam and Swafford this year). Bottom line, according to the guys who oughtta know, we're gonna sign 23-25 players for 2015.

For those who can't listen:

One of the hosts conducting the interview complimented Butch and UT on the impression made by our players during last year's SEC Media Days, talking about how they took the time to greet and shake hands with every member of the assembled media and just how impressive that was compared to other schools' players. This gave Butch a chance to talk about how hard he and his staff work on that aspect of developing the young men to be better people, not just players (paraphrasing here). Anyway, I thought it was a nice bit of seemingly impromptu recruiting PR on local radio behind enemy lines.

I'm pretty sure that you have to be down to the 85 limit once fall camp starts. If that's true then they can sign 25 and still have the spring summer to get everything work out. I'm pretty sure about that is how it works.

For those that watch Marvel's Agents of Shield, it's kinda like when someone would mention TAHITI around Coulson, his response would be, it's a magical place. So when people mention UT around CBJ, his response is, it's a special place.
