Anyone in Atlanta hear the Butch Jones interview on Buck & Kincade? I would be interested in hearing a summary of the actual interview if anyone heard it.

I did happen to listen in after the interview was done. They had very great things to say about the job Butch is doing at UT. Good to hear people in the Atlanta media market who are positive on Butch; especially, since this is prime recruiting territory!

I'll summarize:

-It's a process
-Brick by Brick
-I'm seeing improvement every week
-We need to learn how to play winning football
-We have the best fan base in the country
-Georgia is a very talented team
-The freshmen QB's won't play this weekend
-Eye discipline is key
-63
-Gotta have a snap and clear mentality

And no I didn't hear any of the interview.

That is funny.

You forgot: "Losing is never accepted at Tennessee by team 117"

I heard it. Pretty much what he always says. They all were impressed saying he was one of the better interviews they have had and liked him a lot. But again. The same stuff he normally says, nothing ground breaking.

We have some on here who nitpick everything the guy does. Heaven forbid if he ever has bad crease in his pants on Saturday. There will be hundreds of comments about it.

EVERY coach has their talking points, except maybe Spurrier. That is how they survive the media.

I wonder what some of you would prefer Jones to do. Do you really want him to rip into the team and start calling out individual players? Wouldn't help recruiting much or this team's fragile psyche (based on how we've finished the last two seasons). Would it inspire more confidence in him if he openly discussed strategy and our quarterback rotation the week of a game or do you want him to make wisecracks and do everything he can to make the topic bars on Around the Horn and PTI? We had that with Kiffin and it seemed to arouse more scrutiny than anything else. The narrative hasn't changed and it won't until we get some better players...in the meantime, what could he say in an interview that would make you guys happy?

I heard it .... and you pretty much nailed it. :)

He did talk also about his kids being around the program and how he thought it was important for his players to see him in his role as a Dad which I thought was kind of interesting.

THIS IS HUGE. Fulmer did the same with his daughters and that paid off with all of his players, current and former, loving him for it. Hell, he even gained a son in law for it. This is the main thing I measure a coach by. He needs to be a mentor for these folks and this will be huge in the recruiting department.

I think Travis Henry may have ducked out halfway through that practice.

That is true! Courtney married Robert Peace which is a little ironic because Robert's dad, Joe Raymond Peace once accused Fulmer of running up the score on him in 1993 when he was the head coach at Louisiana Tech. Peace said that he appreciated Gene Stallings of Alabama not scoring late and then said that Tennessee would have scored more if they could have. We beat them something like 56-3 without scoring in the 4th quarter. Utter nonsense. That in home visit must have gone better than expected for Phil.

Wow Jones says the same stuff in all his press conferences. Big whoop. Bill Belichick has been saying the same two phrases of "they're a good football team" and "we gotta get better" for the last 13 years. Jones's job is to coach a football team, not be a media darling and fire off one liners for the fan base.
