Butch covered a few topics:

--talked about his relationship with Erik Spoelstra and getting to see Game 7 of NBA Finals. Spoelstra deserves credit for doing such a good job with Miami.
--selling the brand of Tennessee football and how passionate the fan base is that resides in Knoxville (including a line 3 blocks long for autographs at the O & W Game---plus the 66k fans that attended the spring game).
--George pointed out that Tennessee is not Florida or Texas so doesn't have a strong recruiting base to pull from. Butch swiftly pointed out that Tennessee is producing very good D1 talent and that he wanted the best players in the state to play for the state university.
--George (still a Nashville resident I believe) asked Butch about Jalen Hurd and described him as "awesome"...Butch of course did not answer the question due to NCAA rules and changed the subject.
--Packer and George were very complimentary of Butch and the job he's doing. They said that college football is better when Tennessee is better. Also went over the brutal back to back road games at Oregon and Florida.

All in all I thought Butch represented himself and the UT well. The hosts didn't hate...very pro-UT..the one statement that got me is when Packer said "College football is better when Tennessee is better" Have to love that! GBO!

I've heard a lot of people say that lately -- even our rivals. Seems everyone is just as tired of us sucking as we are. Of course, they still want to beat us but I get the feeling it's no fun to beat Tennessee when it's this far down and I can understand that. What's the point of bragging about a win when your rival is at an epic low point instead of at their height. The UT-UF games of the 90s were legendary because both teams were good enough to win and go for it all.

Have you heard of this school that calls themselves Vandy?

They are the exception to the rule. Victories by Vanderbilt over Tennessee occur with about the same regularity as sightings of Halley's Comet, so they have to take advantage of the opportunity whenever it presents itself and regardless of the circumstances involved.

Doremats? Yeah, it's pretty hilarious to hear them brag about beating us last year, as though it was somehow an accomplishment.

Let them puff their collective chests out and brag about beating a team with the worst coach (both head and defensive) in UT's long history. UT had so much talent go to waste last season. All because of coaching. Let's see how Vandy handles a Tennessee team that's unified and holds each other accountable.

In a few years the rival fans will be wanting us to suck again, because in a few years we will be KICKING A__ Hopefully sooner then later.. :hi:

I hope I'm wrong but I believe there will be another comet coming by this year...Our future looks bright but not this up and coming year....to many unknowns...

That may well be true, but it won't be Halley's Comet; it last traversed the solar system in 1986, so it is not expected to return until 2061. Halley's Comet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I was 10 when Haley's comet passed overhead last. I remember my parents driving me and my brothers out to the Smokies one night to see it.

I guess I will be a fairly old codger if I live to see it again.

Thanks for the memories!!

Ironically, the "Comet of the Century" is coming by in November. Supposed to be in the sky for weeks.
