Sorry this is long, but I feel it needs to be said. This is written because I am tired of all the fairweather fans getting on here after a loss....
I saw it in one thread that someone said Buch doesn't really bleed orange because he didn't grow up in the SEC or in TEnnessee and he is onle here because of a contract. I haven't seen a passion for Tennessee like this since the mid 90's when Fulmer was in full swing. Butch has given his all for Tennessee thus far. He puts everything into this team and university.
There is even a thread saying that we will not have a good recruiting class now either. Butch has done an extra-ordinary job with his sales pitch to these recruits. All of you assuming Butch is a poor coach and a dumb guy need to get a clue. He knew coming in that he was changing the offense and defense and doing so with no depth. Take a look at our roster, In my count there are 8 position groups on this team, and 6 of them have at least 1 walk-on in the 2 deep.
He has told these recruits they are coming in to save this program. They are not shaken by the record this year, because Butch has told them we lack playmakers, depth and speed. And our curent roster is very talented, but they ARE NOT Butch's guys except most of the freshmen. He looks for a certain breed of player that is mentally tough and has said it takes time to develop that trait. We have done a lot of good this season that deserves compliments to multiple members of this staff.
I believe we will not be affected much by the departure of this group of seniors. Butch will have built more even depth across the board and have his guys in place. With the number of EE's we will be ready to compete this fall with another tough schedule. Things are looking up, despite the tough loss we just received, I am still more excited than I have been in a long time. If you all can't see that there is a change on the horizon, you are missing what this man brings to the table. He is a terrific recruiter, great motivator and great coach and Bleeds orange lets back this man!
