Butler signs Stevens to 12 year extension

Why would a guy as young as Stevens, given his wild success, sign a 12 year contract at Butler? That's just ridiculous.

I get the sense that he likes Butler and wants to be there. That said, 5 years from now when it's obvious that Butler has accomplished everything it can, what will he do?

David Letterman already offered to give him his salary for one year ($31 million) to coach at Ball State.

Any big money school who really wants him could probably pay his buyout for him. If he has anywhere near as much success in the next few seasons as he did in his first 3, it's hard to see him finishing out this contract at Butler.

Id like to know what the buyout is. Does anyone know anything about the contract? How much is he gettin paid over his said 12 year extension?

Well, it seems pretty clear that Butler's program is capable of winning the national championship. They didn't win, but either one of those shots in the final seconds could have fallen as easily as not. If Stevens accomplishes that at some future date, why should he leave even then, unless he just wants more money?

In any case, he had no reason not to accept that contract. If someone else wants him later on and he's interested, they can pay the buyout. Just having the 12-year contract is going to help his recruiting.

He seems pretty grounded and may be happy there. Not everybody needs to go to Southern California to be happy.
