Brad Stevens is just so awesome.
Hard to believe he'd spend his whole career at Butler even if it is his dream job but wow... the product he puts on the floor with their facilities and resources is amazing. I'd love to see what this guy could do at a major university.
If Coach K/Roy Williams/Jim Boheim were to retire or Ben Howland were to be fired... would Brad Stevens really pass on those offers? Ben Howland is 7-3 this year and was really close to being 3-7. I think Howland being fired is more likely than Coach K/Roy Williams retiring and I'd have to think incentive of living in L.A. and restoring UCLA to prominence would be appealing. There is also the possibility of Josh Pastner and Rick Barnes being fired imo. While Memphis has top notch facilities and resources, I can't picture Stevens there and don't think that's the jump you make from your dream job. And you wouldn't think Barnes would be fired given his extensive body of work but in the past four seasons, he's been knocked out of the tournament in the 1st round twice and the 2nd round twice. After coming off his most losses ever at Texas last season(14) and his second most losses in his career, he's already 6-4 again this season. I don't think of Texas as a traditional basketball powerhouse but it is Texas. Not only can they offer you all the money and resources you need but I'd have to believe just like football, recruiting there for basketball would be pretty easy.
What about the NBA? Does anyone think his style and coaching would translate to the pros?
I know most people don't think he'd leave Butler and I agree he wouldn't for any run of the mill job but I have to believe there are select programs he'd leave for. And if he doesn't want to leave the state of Indiana, I'm not but I know a lot of Pacers fans are fed up with head coach Frank Vogel. But yeah... saying Brad Stevens is good would be understatement. He's simply been unbelievable. Career record of 14742 (.778), conference record of 7317 (.811) and two championship appearances in 4 seasons at Butler of all places, wow.
He has me sold.
