Hmiel kicked out of Dover? UPDATE - OFFICIAL, fails drug test: Been told from folks at the track that #32-Shane Hmiel was was escorted out Dover International Speedway after a privite meeting in the NASCAR trailer. Supposedly all reports have Hmeil failing a randon dug test. Hmeil was 2nd fastest in practice today. Being told Ron Hornaday will drive the #32 car at Dover.
NASCAR STATEMENT: NASCAR has suspended driver Shane Hmiel indefinitely, for violation of the sanctioning body's substance abuse policy. NASCAR officials said Thursday that Hmiel was tested for banned substances after NASCAR Busch Series qualifying at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C. The results of the test were positive, violating Section 12-4-A (actions detrimental to stock car racing) and Section 12-4-E (violation of the NASCAR Substance Abuse Policy) of the 2005 NASCAR rule book. Hmiel is 14th in the current NASCAR Busch Series driver championship standings.(NASCAR PR)(6-2-2005)

Usually, I think suspensions for some drugs are stupid (like pot), but in NASCAR it may make the most sense of all. 200mph while high would probably be very scary. :yikes:

It's the 2nd time in two years he's been busted for it. I agree that in a sport like Nascar where you are running 180 mph with 43 other drivers..any time you fail a drug test after a race you should be gone for good after the FIRST time!

C'mon, everybody knows most drugs stay in your system at least 2 weeks. He could have done something 2 wednesdays prior to that race and still had traces of it in his system; well AFTER the intoxicating agents had ran their course.

I just hope he's able to seek help for his problem. He completed all kinds of addiction counseling courses the last time. Something obviously had to have happened to cause him to relapse, especially since he knew the consequesnces if he was busted again.

I wonder if they'll actually tell the public this time what he tests positive for. The last time it was rumored to be ephedra and/or marijuana.

When an athletes’ life is in the spot light I think they lose the common sense part of their brain. Will athletes ever learn for others mistakes?!?!? I mean come on you have it made. Keep your nose clean and retire early and enjoy life....................... :banghead:

DOVER, Del. -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. was busy preparing for Sunday's MBNA RacePoints 400, but his mind was still on Shane Hmiel, the son of his crew chief.

Dale Earnhardt Jr.

NASCAR suspended Hmiel indefinitely on Friday after he failed his second drug test in less than two years. Hmiel is the son of DEI Technical Director Steve Hmiel, and many expected the younger Hmiel to eventually wind up with DEI.

The elder Hmiel was just hired last week to be Earnhardt Jr.'s crew chief.

"I know that is a mistake you hate to see someone make twice, you know, he can still turn his life around," said Earnhardt Jr., who has been close friends with Hmiel for years.

"I am just thinking about him, this weekend, I know he is probably down. But you know, that is a tough one."

Earnhardt Jr. said he would continue to support Hmiel's career.

"Whatever I can do to help him," Earnhardt Jr. said. "It's disappointing, but I won't turn my back on my friend. I'll help him however he needs to be helped."

A lot of people believe that if given the same test, jr would fail also.

I'm glad at least he's on record as not hanging Shane out to dry.
