UNC just lost to #11 seed George Mason in the second round. Considering we lost to a #7 seed, I have to think that this improves Pearl's stock for Coach of the Year. Roy Williams got no farther than Pearl in the tourney. What does everyone else think?

It certainly doesn't hurt Pearl's chances.

I'm just happy that maybe they will begin to rag on Carolina and get off our wagon for awhile!!!

I don't think either has a real chance at it. Pearl's team dropped five of the last eight and Williams just lost to an 11 seed. Both did great jobs this year and extremnely exceeded expectations. They just didn't get far enough to be seriously considered for coach of the year. Pearl didn't even get it in the SEC.

No kidding  ... he might be the true threat!!

More likely the winner of the george mason vs. WSU game since that team makes the elite 8.

No chance. Either Roy or Pearl wins it. I still say it will be Roy, but Pearl could win it. Having his very own ESPN special sure helps. Of course, Roy has Vitale pimping his name every time he gets on the air and he decides to discuss anything not associated with Duke.

I don't know about you, but Dickie V. has seemed relatively quiet to me this season.

Definitely a tough loss for my beloved Heels today. Much like UT, while the Heels far exceeded my expectations that I had for them before the season started, they certainly didn't play up to their full potential or their seeding in the NCAA tournament. Still, both teams were loads of fun to watch this season, and I'm eagerly looking forward to next season. Duke is going to be UNC's bitch next year.

You are much kinder to a team that lost to a much lower seed than the 7 seed loss for UT. How about some equal time trashing?

They split this year. You ain't seen nothing yet. Reddick and Shelden Williams will be gone next year. UNC has the #1 recruiting class in the nation coming in, and Hansbrough and the rest of Carolina's freshmen will be better next year than this year. Seriously, if Carolina can keep Hansbrough from leaving before the end of his junior season, I don't think Duke is going to get a win off of the Heels for several years. The cupboard is going to be unusually bare at Duke next year.

I've never trashed the Vols. I've stated that they had a great season and played above their talent level for most of the season; however, due to their late season collapse they didn't deserve a #2 seed. In addition, they didn't live up to their seed in the NCAA tournament. I've stated that UNC didn't live up to its seed either. Where's the inconsistency here?

Also, to be honest, I think that this year's Tarheel team was much more fun to watch than last year's team that won the national championship. Why? Because these guys were young and sometimes very wreckless, but they always played with tons of heart. While last year's team won the national championship, you couldn't say that they always played with tons of heart and emotion.

I'd be surprised if Duke doesn't have a top class coming in next year as well... McRoberts is looking like he'll be really good. Paulus just needs more experience running the point as well. Nelson should be turned loose more on the offensive end with Redick and Williams gone. That will be tough for them to recover from though.

While Duke's incoming class will be good, it's not up to quality of the the Tarheel's incoming class, and it's a big drop off from the quality of freshman classes that Duke has been hauling in over the last several seasons. McRoberts will be very good, and Paulus led the ACC in assists as a freshman this year. However, other than those two guys, Duke doesn't have much returning. Ordinarily you can look at Duke's team and identify a number of guys that are going to light the scoreboard up for them the next year. This year, there's really only McRoberts.

Considering where each team was coming from this season, I'll give the split to UNC.

Here's a sampling of quotes:

Lofton is a good player, but he isn't in the same class as Reddick, and Carolina shut him down on his home court. I love the comments about Carolina being inconsistent. They're not the ones that have dropped 4 of their last 6 games.

That is honestly the most ridiculous seed that I've ever seen the selection committee produce. I could see UT getting a #4 seed, but honestly, they deserved a #5 seed. A #2 seed is totally inexplicable.

You heard it here first, folks. UT goes down in Round #1 to Winthrop. Winthrop has a lot of NCAA tournament experience over the last few years.

As I said before, I would have no real issue with a #4 seed. #3 seeds, however, don't drop 4 of their last 6 games. UT didn't deserve a #3 seed, and the only logical explanation for the Vols getting a #2 seed is the selection committee hitting the crack pipe.

If UT can survive to get to the Sweet 16, though, Roy and the boys will be more than happy to boot the Vols back to Knoxville.

The great thing about the Vols getting the #2 seed is that it clears the path for the Tarheels to get to the Elite 8 without having to play a real #2 seed.

Bilas on ESPN Bracketology just said that UT better come ready to play because Winthrop has some great players and they are more than capable of beating UT.

I beat him to the punch and went on record first, though. Winthrop over UT in Round 1.

Your posts consistently were negative against UT - no crime - but I never saw the corresponding negative quotes about UNC. Perhaps they are on another board.

Given your predictions it is clearly UNC that underachieved moreso than the Vols and should be getting many more negative comments from you than you've spent on UT. After all, UNC would have beaten UT (your quote) and UNC lost to an 11 seed while UT lost to 7 seed.

Yes. That is a sampling of my posts, and they state exactly what I already said. Those are NOT all of my posts. You managed to select the posts where I didn't talk about the fact that UT had a great season. I guess I was unaware that I need to qualify every statement that I make so that it doesn't offend the delicate ears of those that only want to hear about how great everything is. If you don't like my posts, tough. Feel free to skip over them whenever you'd like. I'm here to discuss basketball, and in several months, the Vols' upcoming football season. I'm not here to please you.

In my opinion Carolina is a better team than the Vols. It's impossible to prove, however, because both teams underperformed in the NCAA tournament. Now the both get to watch the Sweet 16 from their couches just like us.

The reasons that you never saw me make negative posts about UNC are 1) They hadn't lost 4 of their last 6 games coming into the NCAA tournament. In fact, they were one of the hottest teams in the nation coming in to the tournament. 2) I think that UNC got exactly the seed that they deserved in the NCAA tournament - a #3 seed. I'm not anti-UT, but they didn't deserve a #2 seed. They deserved a #4 seed at best due their late season collapse.
