I would argue the his most underrated performance was in Larger Than Life, that his best overall scene was in The Wolf of Wall Street (are you thumping your chest as you read this?), and that his best death scene was in Reign of Fire.

I've only seen one of those. I thought what he did in Dallas Buyers Club was remarkable.
