Good thing that guy didn't go out underage drinkin, causing a ruckus and wrastlin' with the police! They'd behead him or something...good grief.

I think this shows a lot of class and integrity - for both them and the school.

You live by a code and you stick to it all the way.

I think it shows an ignorant antiquated worldview, based upon ritual and sexual repression.

These conditions were not forced upon them. They voluntarily agreed to live by those standards and voluntarily agreed to break them. I don't see how this is news worthy.

I know they weren't forced to those rules. They are part of that statement.

I don't agree with the LSD religion primarily because of its massive bloodshed at its beginning. But I respect Mormons due to their moral standards.
I don't think sex outside of marriage is deserving of death but attacking a persons moral lifestyle is a bit ignorant.

i can almost guarantee for every LDS member who wants to withhold sex until after marriage i can show you a hardcore southern baptist who has done the same...the overall percentage may be higher, but i know two LDS girls and i know one of them isn't a virgin...so im not completely sold on their supposed higher moral standards...they seem to be about the same as everyone else, but again, i only know two haha

Abstinence is not repression. BYU is not the only private Christian university that has these rules based on hte belief structure by which the school was founded. It is the foundation of integrity. If you disagree, go to a state school.

That may be correct since you mentioned "hardcore" southern Baptist. But morals have a lot more to do than just sex. And I still don't think they are just like everyone else. I've been intrigued with religion for years and studied all of the mainstream ones pretty closely. Mormons do still stand out as a whole. My opinion is that its peer pressure more than faith. It takes an incredible amount of faith to believe Joseph Smith since he claimed to be Christian but his book contradicts Christ's teachings. Basically, logic has to be kicked to the curb to be a Mormon.
This kid seems to be doing what he feels is right even though it brings along a bit of shame. Bravo to him. You can't hardly find that anywhere today.

On one hand, they signed up for it and knew the rules.

On the other hand, you are going to kick someone out of college for that? I know they can just continue their education at another institution but I think that penalty is a little stuff.

Yep, that's what caused the problem in the first place.

they kicked that real world chick (from years ago) out because she was shown on film drinking. i agree with those who say BYU has every right to have whatever rules they see fit and have the right to kick those out who violate them. it may be stupid or antiquated, but that is their right. it's not as though unga couldn't have gone to a different university.

Hopefully prospective recruits will pay attention to such ridiculousness tied to BYU's academic honor code and be dissuaded from attending there. BYU's holier-than-thou attitude has rubbed me the wrong way my entire life, and I hope that instances like these will cause recruits to shy away.

I would take losing every game next season just to beat BYU. They are the only team I won't pull for in our conference in OOC games or Bowl games.

I kind of feel sorry for BYU. Hell, they're a bunch of con victims.

Not really, if you play by the rules and kiss all the right rear-ends in the LDS church, you're taken care of for life.
