Cain on Libya.

Perry's was worse.

Actually, I don't agree. Perry was on stage and under the lights. This was office setting. For a period you could make the case that he was trying to sort out some nuances within the question, but after a bit it just becomes clear that he doesn't have facts or an opinion worth giving and is afraid to flub it.

A few times he makes remarks that he is about to be critical of Obama because .... and then it trails off because he has no answer.

Perry was naming agencies that he wants to abolish. Presumably, these are agencies that he decided were worth scrapping after reasoned analysis. In fact, his plan to abolish the agencies is one of his campaign platforms. He wasn't thrown a curveball, he should have had those agencies memorized.

Perry was also speaking to something that should have been rehearsed and memorized, and instead he Ainge'd it on stage. I don't know if the Cain video was impromptu or what, but any gaffe like that on stage will take the cake most of the time.

Valid point re Perry should have had that one nailed going into it.

Have to disagree with your characterization of question about Libya as a "curve ball." Pretty timely topic and one he ought to be prepared on.

That he had to confirm with the questioner that Obama supported the insurgents is beyond weak.

Cain should have had a prepared response for Libya. That being said, the question was pretty weak (So you agreed with Obama on Libya or not?)

It was open ended. He could have said "I would have done x about Libya," or "if faced with a similar situation in the future, US policy ought to consider A, B, and C," or ""Obama's approach had some errors in it, which were ..."

None of that. Just seemed to lose all focus.

Probably a decent looking blonde chick walked by the office door.

I guess you've worn out the "TP is racist" canard and now it's "Cain the womanizer".

No, I just noticed that the accusers I saw on tv were all blonde.

Would you feel better if I'd said they were all between 5'4" and 5'"7?

I would hope that you, as a lawyer, would recognize the danger of convicting someone in the court of public opinion.

It's pretty hard to justify Republican military engagements and bash Democratic ones (and vice versa). Cain's inability to answer the question is what you get when you dance around that thin line.

there's really nothing wrong with criticizing Obama's "lead from behind" strategy in Libya. Nor is it wrong to criticize him for continuing to press the fight in Afghanistan when he campaigned on the issue of bringing the troops home ASAP.

It showed some weakness in foreign policy - but we also know that this is a weakness. He also showed experience and disclipine by making sure he and the reporter were on the same page and didn't go all Sarah Palin + Bush Doctrine cluster on us.

If Obama or Biden hadn't had so many moments as bad or worse... you'd have a point.

LG must have been vacationing in our 57th state when they had theirs.

I rank that mis-speak behind Perry's not knowing which agency he wants to cut and not being confident of what the sitting President's position was on a pressing foreign policy matter. But, it did provide good material - must have been good, it's still being circulated....
