Our guys meaning who, USC? :p

We returned a couple in the scrimmage on Saturday. Taylor and Rogers rock.

Reachin' back for that one, freak. Just go ahead and call about half the rest of the board Texas fans. Or is your memory too selective? :p

Seriously, what's the report on our special teams? Will we not suck this season?

I was just messin with ya milo.

It's hard to say. Either our return game is good or our coverage team is terrible. Wilhoit has struggled with accuracy on FGs.

Cal's defense is supposed to be the strength of the team. CFN rated them in the top 10... but if their offense is running up and down the field on them like it sounds like then they're not as good as advertised. Added to that, they haven't decided on a QB starter and have maybe 4 guys in the running.

OTOH, if they have their 1st O going against the 2nd D and vice versa, they won't be ready.

Either way, it smells like blood in the water.

I've decided you do research, but you don't apply it. They have 2 guys in the running to start - Longshore and Ayoob. That's it. Not 4, just 2. Kyle Reed is a good rFr, but he's not seriously going to start.

EDIT: Wanted to add that Cal's strength is not their defense as a whole, but as units or even individual players. The DL is very solid, but the DBs took a hit when Mixon went out. The LBs have a stud in Bishop, and 3-4 talented young guys who have loads of potential.

Saying that, Cal's #1 strength is their RB duo of Lynch and Forsett.

OK. Whatever you say.

I read early in the season that they had four QB's who would get a look. Now if that information was incorrect then that's fine... but it is what I read.

BTW, the Cal fans I've run across despise Ayoob. They blame him more than any UT fan blames Ainge.

I'm not trying to be rude to you, but it just seems that wherever you get your info is a little off. It's not you, I don't guess. It's almost always been a 2 horse race between Longshore and Ayoob. Tedford loooooooves Longshore, but he was injured very early last season, so who knows what he can do. Ayoob played ok I guess, but missed 10 straight passes against SACREMENTO STATE. Levy played FB before coming back under center and I thought he looked okay. However, it's Longshore's job to lose.

CFN alluded to info from Tedford that all four would get a chance this fall. The article linked above did say they might play "both" though.

What other info do you think I've been off on? I read what I can find and try to get as close to the source as possible... which isn't always easy.

There is no doubt (in my mind) that Longshore will get the start. The only other quarterback that we might see Saturday (after next) will by Ayoob...and I am not sure we will see him. There is no doubt (unqualified) that the Cal fans do not want to see Ayoob. They are psyched about the return of Longshore and have been since his injury in last year's first game. I think that Longshore's return is practically ranked just behind Jesus's to most Cal fans. I personally think that we will only see Ayoob on the 2nd if Longshore sees an injury or if his limp (I think that I have seen this reported this Summer) actually becomes an issue. Oh well...just my two cents worth.

Don't we do it that way as well. I hope not.

In my experience, CFN is a terrible, terrible source.

Their preview was apparently good enough to be copied by Foxsports.

I'd agree that they tend to be all over the place with their stuff... like a bunch of guys with opinions that don't check with each other. That said, the comment about all four QB's getting a shot was written as if it came from within the program.

I still think its a valid point that they could be in some trouble if they're less than 10 days from an opener against the biggest OOC opponent they've had under Tedford but haven't named a starting QB... or he could be trying to throw UT's prep off. If that's the case, he must believe that he has to reach.
