It is just baffling to me how clock management in college football gets worse every year, not just by the coaches, but also the refs. First, earlier today, there was the cluster of the Arky Okie St. game. Now in this game, Auburn gets a 1st down with 18 seconds left in the first half and no timeouts. The refs spot the ball in the wrong spot. Right as Auburn gets ready to snap the ball, the ref stops them, picks up the ball and moves it backwards 2 yards. The clock then starts running immediately (it should be the ref takes 5 steps away from the ball, then winds the clock). The Auburn QB fumbles the snap, then spikes the ball. That’s intentional grounding, and a 10-second run-off so there’s only 5 seconds left now. And to make matters even worse for Auburn, the clock will start running on the ref’s signal, not on the snap. Can it get any worse? Yes it can. So, this was a best case scenario for Cal, because Auburn now has no time to line up for a field goal before half time. So what does the Cal coach do? He calls timeout!
That gave Auburn the time they needed to line up for the field goal. Unbelievable incompetence all around. It’s just crazy how dumb these coaches are with clock management!
lol at the refs trying everything they can to keep AU in this. BS targeting, BS PI, and one very close PI they could have swallowed the flag on. This latest AU TD belongs to the refs.
The SEC is like most years. Mid-to-bottom is bad while the top 5-6 teams are great. Adding OU and Texas boosted the league a lot because both look like they are in the top 5-6 category.
