Interesting article on ESPN (from AP) this morning. Mainly, it states:

"Calipari said Tuesday he expects the Wildcats to 'lose early' while they figure things out....Calipari says he 'screwed up' by overscheduling."

Is this guy making excuses? Is Kanter going to be ineligible? Is this a brilliant scheme to intentionally lower expectations, then completely dominate (effing hope not). I don't know.

Its called being the coach at UK. He came in his first season and went 35-3, reeing off 19 in a row. Any logical person knows thats not happening this year, but the UK fanbase as a whole is not that logical. Of course he is the master politician, so yeah he is planting the seed early.

As for the schedule, he is not happy with the Maui trip. I think he knows that Kanter is not going to be available for the trip, and that there are 2 or 3 teams out there that will hand UK a nice loss. Its just Cal being Cal, and has little to do with him being worried.

As much as I despise Cal, I can't argue with that.

BTW, Mods: Sorry, I just realized this may not be an appropriate topic for VN. Feel free to remove.

If he did it with 5,5* freshmen last year how is it off base to think he could do it again this year with 5 more 5*s?

He's being honest. And trying to temper expectations, which is definitely smart.

Because there aren't 5 first round picks on this team, 3 of them lottery. Wall and the 3 man combo of Orton, Cousins, and Patterson literally carried the team to 6 or 7 wins that could have been losses. To think this years team will do the same with a thin and undersized front court is insane.

Also, people put to much stock into the "star" recruiting evaluation method in the first place. If anyone thinks Knight/Lamb is equal to Wall/Bledsoe because they are all 5*, then they are fooling themselves.

K. I'm an insane fool. Wall is irreplaceable but Knight is the next bext thing. I would trade a Bledsoe/Orton for Lamb/Kanter. And as far as the frontcourt I would say you are insane my friend 6'8" 230 SF,6'10" 230 PF, and 6'9" 240 C isn't what I would consider "undersized." But, what really scares me is the 2011 class.

They have nobody to replace Wall or Cousins. Those types don't arrive every year.

IKnight is good, but he is getting a lot of hype that I'm not so sure he will live up to. There are 2 other PG's in this class that are just as good IMO.

Kanter is likely to not even play, Josh Harrellson is nothing more than someone to absorb some fouls, and Vargas is a taller version of Perry Stevenson will a little more offense. Terrence Jones is listed as a PF but he will be playing the perimeter a lot. Fact is, this team will not block shots or rebound as well as it did last season. Once we get in foul trouble, it will certainly show.
