Trae Golden sucks right? Any and every loss that happens, put it on Golden. So let's pull Golden from PG. Who do you exactly replace him with?????

Wes Washpun? Sure. That's a good idea. It's not like he has a problem handling the ball, especially when he's being pressured. Not to mention he's such a threat offensively for us. What are you thinking Coach Martin?

Cam Tatum? That's another good idea. Guy has amazing ball handling skills. I mean seriously! He gets in the paint and he's so good, he don't bother protecting the ball. That lean back jumper is top notch too.

Jordan McRae. Another winner. His consistancy is off the charts. His shot selection might confuse you but trust, he's just doing it to throw YOU off and has it perfectly under control.

Josh Richardson. He's clearly a better shooter than Golden but not nearly the defender Golden is.

Skyler McBrick. He's too quick for point guards. Didn't you notice that back door cut late in the game? He was so quick that he figured he'd just leave his guy for a little bit, take a break, and he'd let him catch up. Plus we really need a PG that's not one dimentional. He can create his shot like no other!

Hall, Yemi and Maymon. Let's just confuse every other team we play and switch our front court to the back and our back court to the front. That'll really show 'em.

Last and certainly not least, STOKES! The born savior that was sent here to put you out of your misery and make you forget all about the tan man and promote Martin to East Tennessee rock star. Maybe he can be the point. Just put his size 20 shoes in the lane and we don't have to worry about the guard penetrating.

So who do we want to put in the game? Do any of you "experts" have a better option than Golden at the 1? I'd really love to hear.

In reality, most of you "sky is falling" posters should just forget basketballs even bounce and watch tennis. What exactly did you expect? I know people got their hopes up because we beat Florida and played MSU and Kentucky close but it is what it is and there is no point in making it into something it's not. Tennessee killed all NCAA tournament dreams last night so just enjoy the rest of the season with an open mind. It's ridiculous to write off the whole team when (minus Tatum) were a bunch of role players / bench warmers and have a brand new coach and system to learn.

not sure I've ever seen a post bash so many players in an effort to defend one. Good stuff

There is no doubt the SEC is top heavy, but it is damn hard to win on the road in this league. It is inexplicable. This is what makes home wins so important.

Why I said ask me after GA when discussing NCAA hopes.

We don't have the guards to get us to the tourney.

They make it very confusing because they over achieve at home. Wouldn't be surprised if they beat Uconn and lost to SC on the road.
On the road all of their weaknesses are exposed.

At this point I'm hoping for a big 013 recruiting class and that Edwards and Reese are ball handlers..

What do you mean by "write off" the team? You yourself concede it doesn't have a postseason future this year. What's the difference in writing off or not writing off, at this point?

We are clearly a better team than Georgia, Oakland and the other teams we lost to on the road. The team is hard to figure out but it's part of growing up and we'll get better. Golden will get better.

I supported Trae in the debates earlier and support him now. The problem is that if allow a team to remain close we are in trouble.

The old we have no talent moan doesn't work anymore. We've played some good teams close and should have won most of them.

I question the substitutions, play calling (if any), and total lack of bench control in close games.

Last, telling other posters to keep quite is not your place. It seems a few of you who start 90% of the threads on here so people will think you know what you are talking about actually know less than the average poster.

Dude, I think the real problem people have with Golden is in the final minute, he is making inexplicable mistakes THREE GAMES IN A ROW.

Last night, he goes into the lane out of control twice and puts up a bad shot in the final minute.

Kentucky, he walks the ball up the court when we are down 4 and have less than 30s to play.

Mississippi State, he goes into the front court out of control and loses the handle of the ball allowing MSU to steal it and put it in for the easy two pointer, thus cementing the game.

I don't think there is any argument he is the best offensive point guard on the team. His defense is improving as well. The problem is the last minute mistakes. While I don't think we should sit him or pull him, Martin needs to sit him down with the tape of those three games and let him see these situations and walk him through what should have happened.

And btw, what's with the attack of 5 players just to defend one? You mad, bro?

For the people that doesn't get the bigger picture. They are happy to write off this whole group like they can't get it done. They fail to see all the progress we've made or how good were going to be because their too busy looking for results right now.

Easy answer. Stop setting a high pick on Trae's left hand. It's happened multiple times, and we haven't scored once in that position in the game. Pick on his right, or get the ball on the wing with a pass to get down on the block.
Trae also should know where he plans on going with the ball. He doesn't.

I agree the end game situations suck but he's young and was forced to be a leader but most of that is on Martin. If Golden is clearly not ready to take that last shot and be that guy that steps up for you, then put the ball in somebody elses hand. Maymon was that guy in Maui and Golden has seemed to have been that guy since then.

I'm not really bashing the other players. Just pointing out the obvious things discussed here everyday and how we don't really have much more of an option than Golden. It's amazing people forget that.

By now it's pretty obvious that this is an average team at best until we add a different guard.

I can dig that. :peace2: It just looked a little like an attack thread at first.

Also, I think Golden is good enough to be that end game shooter, Martin just needs to sit down with him and walk through these situations. I think fault lies with them both at this point.

We used the pick to the right in the Florida game right before the half and it worked. We haven't seen it since.

I was at that terrible game last night. GA was just as bad as we were. At one point we were shooting 33% from the foul line. If anyone would have made another stinking foul throw, we would not have gone into OT and won the game. GA was about 90% on FT's. Now you don't win or lose many games at the stripe, but a game like this, FT's made all the difference.
I know some like to bash Golden, but he was the only one who made some shots last night. I just don't know what to say except it was just a poor performance all around.

A lot of games are won or lost at the free throw line.
Shooting free throws is all about mechanics and practice. If you practice enough free throws it becomes second nature to make them at a high percentage rate. If a team is good at free throws it generally is because the coach instills in the team the importance of making them. Red Auerbach would not play a man if he shot below 70% at the free throw line.

I don't blame the players at all. Golden is a shooting guard so his natural fit is not at PG. As CCM stated in his press conference after the UK loss - turnovers are a big issue, and apparently he isn't practicing to fix it given an even worse performance, so I put that on him. This team has a lot of talent(even Tatum) with some highly regarded players out of high school and there are some schematic things that are just plain fu**** up. For example, if you are going to continue to play a guy like Pistol Pete McBee you are going to have to play some zone because when they switch Skylar eventually ends up in a mismatch like he did with Djurisic in UGA game. IMO CCM is going to live or die with his type of play which means he is not game planning based on his team but what style he wants..this is ok as long as he is able to get his players in recruiting, but if not watch out because it will be a long few years.

Very nice post and I agree 100%. McBee drawing the Georgia post killed us and we probably should of lost by more because that mixmatch happend quite a bit last night and they weren't already looking for it.
