As a Cal fan, I knew things hadn't looked right the past six games after the Bears fell from #1. I just thought that it was an inability to maintain a power running game without Lynch and an eroding defense not able to cope with injuries. But the injuries never piled up that much, so this new "news" doesn't surprise me as much as I thought it would.

There are rumors (I must emphasize these are just rumors, although I tend to think they're pretty credible) circulating on The Bear Insider and Cal blogs who have contact with players that the Bears quit early. Links to those posts can be found here: On Quitting at Bears Necessity

I'm going to hope that it isn't true, but it would explain the lackluster efforts over the past month. If true, it just makes me sad. I'll let you know about any further developments.

It is becoming very clear that Cal's only real goal this season was beating UT. Congrats. They did it.

If the players are quitting on the coach and on the team, it's a damn shame.

It's happened twice here 2002 and 2005.

Sounds to me like the players are making excuses to mask the fact they are wildly overrated.

very strong indictment of the quality of the UT team that they slaughtered on opening day. Appropriate, but harsh.

Being #1 for a few minutes before losing doesn't count as being #1.
