His actual base pay from the Univ. is 400K or so. But with all his incentives, winning the SEC, SEC tourney, and the NC, and graduates everybody, he could make 5.8M a year.

It's actually a good move. In 2 years at Kentucky they went from becoming like Norte Dame to being Ohio State (football reference). Ky is a program that is willing to do anything if it means winning and Cal will do anything to win. He will keep the cupboard stocked and consistently get you deep into the tourney. And i say that as a Memphis hoops fan. He may in fact be Satan. but he will keep them near the top of college hoops as long as he is there.

Pretty freakin nutso ain't it.

Yes, but I don't have a problem with it. You pay what it takes to get the guy you want, and you pay what it takes to keep him. He is more than worth it to the program.

There are other philosophies in hiring coaches that I do not respect as much.

Cal was an expert in getting raises every year from Memphis. He knows all of the tactics to increase his money intake. Not saying it's bad, just hate to be the school and boosters that have to pay it.

Is it worth it if he has UK on postseason ban or recruiting restrictions in the next few years?

Who gives a flip. If we were all smart enough to get our bosses to drop raises like that on us every year then we'x be crazy not to do it too. Like someone said, his base salary is only 400k
