Ok, maybe not Cam personally or individually, but what he represents. Let me explain.

Last year Cam Sutton as a true freshman was one of our best players on the whole team. There is an argument to be made that he was the our MVP in 2013. All this from an 18 or 19 year old 3 star recruit being thrown to the wolves in the toughest football conference in America. Cam made an unreal impact on what had been such a woeful UT secondary over the last few years. Cam is a special player.

Will another Cam Sutton emerge from this most recent recruiting class? Perhaps two or even three?

Now think about that bolded sentence and what it could mean for our football team in 2014. Impact freshmen. We don't have to look too far back to see what a powerful recruiting class with impact freshmen can do for an SEC football team. Hugh Freeze in his first year at Ole Miss showed us that.

Team 118 faces an uphill battle this year with a brutal schedule. Nobody can argue that. I try to be objective and my objectivity says that this team will likely have to overachieve just to become bowl eligible...

But Cam Sutton....he gives me hope that we could be something more. Seeing what Josh Malone did at the O&W game....it makes me believe we could be something more. Watching the way our quarterbacks so very clearly improved....it makes me believe we could be something special.

Maybe.....just maybe....the rise and return of the Tennessee Volunteers that we all know, love, remember and cherish.........will be this fall.

Go vols!

Not a bad list at all. Yet, Hendrix could make a bigger splash than Mixon, Henderson or Sawyers. I hope they all excel.

Good post. Although freshmen, they can have a major impact along with some blunders but it is what it is. The good news is we have some talent coming in.

NICE POST, I love the optimism!!

The most encouraging fact about this years team will be that this Freshman class is loaded with players that were recruited that fit this scheme, they are fast and quick. Dooley recruited players because he wanted UT to be big and powerful on both sides of the ball. But, they weren't very quick, and it showed up when UT played fast quick teams.

This team will be smaller and quicker than last's years version, and I would rather have a quicker, faster, and smaller team anytime than a bigger and slower team which is what UT had last year. The biggest problem UT will have this year is lack of experience.

Therefore, six wins and a bowl would be great, seven wins even better, eight wins would be incredible, nine or more, a miracle, but dare to dream, because we have some really talented players coming in this fall that can really make an impact on the roster. If we can find a few Cam Sutton's along the DL and at OL with some consistent, quality play at QB, UT could really surprise.

This is certainly a breath of fresh air and positivity for these boards. Cam definitely excelled last season and I'm sure everyone is excited to see not only him but the new freshman to provide a face lift to this defense.

I agree with the schedule somewhat, but I don't agree with your objectivity. I think 6-6 is a reasonable expectation. 5-7 will be underachieving and will put Butch on the hot seat in year 3.

I think Gaulden will be an impact freshman...guy is a ball hawk...if not for the transfer
his junior year,he would've been ranked much higher than a middle of the pack 4 star...
he's an eraser and led the state in tackles

I agree, Gaulden could be the best DB in this class, and he may come in and start immediately.

The Berry Bros are both fast too, they will have an impact somewhere, probably on ST at first.

I would love for UT to get into the position again to be able to RS some of their db's their first season, bulk them up and move them to linebacker! That would increase the speed on defense dramatically.
