Cameron Carr Transferring

Right so should Estrella transfer too? Lots of athletes get injuries. I'm just saying hes demonstrating a selfish/quitter mentality leaving in the middle of the season for not any good reason.
If we recruit another big man out of the portal that ends up starting, I fully expect to lose either Estrella or Phillips.

I know you love UT and can't fathom this, but these kids have a very small shot at making the league and have to do what they can to maximize their chances of getting there. If Carr thinks he is an NBA talent he isnt going to get there with 8 minutes per game in year 2. Time will tell.

This is honestly the crux of the problem for most highly rated recruits, regardless of sport, coming out of HS. Rarely is there a reseeding, if you will, in their minds about where they truly stack up relative to the pros. This is particularly bad in basketball, where being highly ranked in HS within the US doesn't have the cachet it once did due to the global nature of the sport and how few slots are available.

I'm not sure what to tell you. Barnes literally just put a first rounder transfer in the league.

I'm not trying to empathize with a dude who is leaving in the middle of the season. Go look at BHH, DJ burns, and other litany of guys who don't like Barnes coaching but never left in middle of the season. If you don't think abandoning your team in the middle of the season to preserve your own redshirt isn't selfish then that's your opinion. He obviously has his reasons to do it but they're selfish and pretty narrow sighted

I don't care that it's selfish. RB put him in a corner, he chose to leave.

But didn’t he already burn his RS?? I am not sure the NCAA would issue a medical RS if he is healthy and can play but just wishes to transfer.

He was at Link Academy in 2022-23. He’s a true sophomore.

He’s been out with a hand injury for a month. He should be able to meet the criteria for an injury. The injury is well documented and he can say it’s too painful to play. The NCAA will likely get sued if they deny the medical hardship based on it not being a debilitating injury. He’d also have to not participate after the 1/15/2025 Georgia game (participation in the 1st 50% of the season only).

He’d also might also be speculating that the NCAA will apply the football redshirt rule to basketball. Football players can play in 4 games and preserve their redshirt. He’s played in 4 games this year.

I thought he was going to be an above the rim player and work his way into heavy rotation this year. I was surprised to see he had not added any weight in the off season. He is not physical enough to play SEC basketball. He needs to drop down a level and get on the court somewhere.

Wish Carr had made his move a week or two earlier. CRB has very little time to bring someone in at the 2nd semester, if that's even doable at this late date. I mean....he sits injured for 4 weeks, and only now decides to bolt? Doesn't make a lot of sense imo.

Ah so it's RB fault he got injured and other players were playing than him before he was injured. Got it
The mentality of the student athlete today is they don’t have to earn it because some other school will promise it will be given to them.

You have to wonder how long a coach like RB will want to deal with it.

I'm sure his injury had some effect on his decision. Could be he slid down the depth chart even further and the writing was on the wall. Why waste time.
Carr’s opportunity for increased playing time was right around the corner. It sounds like his decision to leave the program mid-season caught coaches and players off guard. Why do that? The timing is bizarre and hurts the team. If I was his coach or teammate, I would be very disappointed. Fortunately, our program is bigger than one player! Next Vol up!

We are on thin ice heading into conference play as far as injuries are concerned. The conference is great this year from top to bottom and as physical as it’s ever been. Going through the 18 game grind and hoping we stay healthy will be a reach. Barnes may have to do some things from this point forward to save legs. Foul trouble may catch up to us in conference play with how good the teams are. Will be interesting to see how this plays out. Boswell needs to get healthy soon, and Igor and DStone must up their play offensively. The conference is too good to believe we are gonna hold teams to 35% shooting. We will be a bakers dozen (13-0) heading into conference play but then the roller coaster ride begins. Go Vols! We are #1 so enjoy and Merry Christmas to all of Vol Nation. May the good lord send blessings to all!

What about in year 3? He’s going to miss most of year 2 anyways. Why not at least tough it out and then leave at the end of the season? What does he gain by leaving now as opposed to the end of the season? How does that affect his chances of making the league?
