#5 is Gary Valbuena! Tennessee Volunteers QB 72-73.
He is playing for US ALL-star team vs. Kanto All-Stars from the Nippon Football League.

Bob Hayes returns to field he tore up in 1964 Olympics

The extras are players from ***hu AS, Kamiseya Naval Station and Okinawa, and a quarterback by the name of Gary Valbuena.

"Valbuena is 21, stands 6-foot-3, weighs 208 pounds and lives in Huntington. Calif. Valbuena also turned down a chance to sign with the Super Bowl champion Miami Dolphins, who drafted him this year.

Valbuena elected to play in the World Football League, where he's been offered more money for his services and perhaps have a chance to prove himself much sooner than if he joined the Dolphins, who have Bob Griese and Earl Morral for starters.

The University of Tennessee graduate just recently signed a favorable three-year contract with the Southern California franchise in the WFL, and football experts predict he'll be an outstanding professional quarterback."

Googled college football game Tokyo japan 1970, then 71, then 72, then 73.

That got me a link to the program northwestern College vs. Japan League All-stars 1974

Googled the game and found the Japanese Mystery Game with your pic.

Then found the Stars&Stripes article about Bob Hayes (Dallas Cowboys) returning to play football in Japan.

Gary Valbuena was featured in the article. The S&S article is a nice reminder of the disruptive force the WFL was for a short while for the NFL.

Valbuena played for the Southern California Suns in 1974 and San Antonio Wings in 1975 in the WFL. he was drafted inthe 10th round by the Miami Dolphins, but played for the WFL for a lot more money.

Seems like the American players were invited to bring and wear any uniform, college or pro, that represented their past experience.

I'm guessing the Americans who wore the no-decal blue and white could've been US troops filling in for the lack of enough college/pro veterans? Or maybe there was an American team in the Japanese league? (again, probably troops stationed in the area)

US ALL-star team vs. Kanto All-Stars from the Nippon Football League.
Just looking at the photos, seems there are a lot of Americans on both teams. Definitely odd.
