I believe he can't play at all this year. He's sitting out this year due to his transfer from Clemson to Lipscomb.

He would have been eligible to play on scholarship for Lipscomb in December 2012.
Since he's walking on here my guess is he can play now because he's not receiving scholly money.
Need the NCAA experts to chime in on this one.

It will be like Maymon. Can't play until the end of December 2012

Maymon played the first half of the season at Marquette. Stanton left Clemson after last year and I don't think he played the first half this year, so not the same.

Any NCAA red flags here?

Not sure about that. He played his entire freshman year at Clemson and thus, would have had to sit out an entire academic year, making him eligible fall of 2012. This would have had him setting out the entire 2011-2012 season. The fact that he left Lipscomb within that year changes nothing I would think, and he should be eligible as a non-scholarship player for the entire 2012-2013 season.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Rob Lewis of VQ said that he spoke to Coach Martin, and that he'll be eligible to play 2nd semester of the next academic year.

It's settled then, but it is not entirely like Maymon's situation because Maymon actually played his first semester at Marquette. Stanton is actually punishing himself an extra semester it sounds like. He is going to have to set out three semesters as a transfer. He must really want to be a Vol.

well ok, I'm just saying - regardless of the reasons - it's like Maymon not being able to play until the 2nd semester

Yeah, just clearing up for those who might have been confused by comparing the situations at face value.

Confusing. Seems like if he played the whole season at Clemson, transferred to Lipscomb and then transferred again to UT, you would figure the Lipscomb transfer would be pointless since he was setting out anyways. You are penalized for switching schools again even though your already setting out?

That's how I felt originally. If he's sitting out anyway, who cares if he transfers 10x. But, if Rob Lewis data it will be midyear, I guess we have to go with it.

Either way, good deal! I'm guessing if Landry pans out and is a quality guard, Golden splits more of his minutes to the 2.
